From a Terrified Ipswich Supporter

Hello

This is a note from a lifelong Ipswich Town fan, who is reeling from a 7-1 defeat to Peterborough. We had no defence, took two red cards in one game for the first time in our history, and our two best players were both loan signings. We lacked motivation, discipline and direction and there seems to have been a sticking plaster approach to signings.

When Jewell arrived, there was a sense that we had a pragmatic manager who would lift a quiet dressing room. He brought in Jimmy Bullard on loan and this signing suggested an optimistic future direction. However, there is no strategic thinking around either signings or tactics.

I have just come over to seek wisdom, as there is a raging debate on TWTD (our similar fans forum) around whether he should go. We have shipped four goals four times, five goals twice and now seven goals in the last six months.

I am delighted at see that you are doing so well this season, and sincerely hope that this continues. It is wonderful to see a well run club reaping the rewards of being patient with your manager. Ipswich used to have a reputation for taking this approach once.

Many thanks for listening to this plea,

Harry from Bath

Bet you wish you kept Magilton now.

Paul jewell was the only manager of derby that i have ever hated. No tatical knowledge. Signs good players but they dont play well under him eg. commons , hulse. He is also the biggest dick ever i know someone who works at the club and they said he was the most arragont man they have ever met. I dont think it will work for him at clubs like derby or ipswich as fans expectations are to high

Interesting post. I'd be very cautious before any more money is given to Paul Jewell. Don't read into our league position, without a doubt the early promotion and the ensuing combined Billy Davies and Paul Jewell fiasco has set us back at least 5 years. We're still paying the price for some of the absymal players that were bought and contracted to the club.

With the new financial fair play rules I think now more than ever is the time to not panic, operate within your means and build slowly. Jewell had success at Wigan, granted but he is yet to prove he can spend money and deal with the expectations at bigger clubs. He wanted it too much and too quickly here, a recipe for disaster.

I'm not sure his man-mangement skills are that great when the going gets tough. I seem to remember rumours of disharmony in the dressing room but all things considered that is hardly surprising given the results.

Once bitten twice shy. Sack him if you want to move forward. I listened to his BBC interview from your match, you could have substituted Ipswich for Derby, he sounds desperate.

He can't organise a defence to save his life. We shipped 7 many times under him in the Prem, looks like he can even let Championship teams score that many now.

Yup, at least we were put to the sword by some top sides. When you are hit for 7 at Posh, questions should be asked.

Hello again

Many thanks for this kind and insightful feedback. I reckon that we will know within a month how this will resolve itself. The tactical chaos is as worrying as the lack of motivation, and this comes from the manager.

Good luck with the rest of your season. You have a decent manager, and I would sleep better if he was in our dugout.

Harry

I watched your highlights this morning on i-player and it brought back horrific flashbacks of the way we used to completely cave in, the chaotic defending, the total lack of any pattern of play, but worse of all the depressing interviews in that awful dull scouse accent. (It was embarrassing for us today - NOT AS EMBARRASSING AS IT WAS FOR US WHO HAD TO PAY FOR THAT CRAP, PAUL).

Then we got the screen shots of the o videos with some slapper with a DCFC badge stuck on her minge.

Uurrrggh.

As if all that wasn't bad enough he inflicted us with Robbie Savage as well

Horrific manager.. I like Ipswich, feel dreadfully sorry for them.

His approach is just terrible.. Did anyone hear his interview? Was basically along the lines of.. 'I'm embarrassed, the players are terrible, I'll bring in more players who are good enough'

Basically he's destroyed the confidence of the players that he has and has bought, and he will use the scatter gun approach to buy another 10 or so players and hope they either come good, rediscover old form (Ellington) or pull off a miracle.

He's a terrible manager, man management is poor and literally wastes millions and millions with his scatter gun approach to signings and long contracts.

He alone set DCFC back 3 years.. He sold BDs best players (Jones, Oakley, Howard, Mears) and brought in sh*te.

Ipswich are going to be in a huge mess for the next few years.. Shame really, as when they had GB they were definately my second favourite club..

Unfair to blame him with Mears, didn't have much choice now did he?

He also took over Ipswich when they were 20th, finished 13th and 13pts from the play offs. I'm guessing the fans were pretty pleased with him in May.

Did we ever ship 7 in our horror season in the prem? I can only think of 6´s.

Jewell is still a poor football manager though.

No pretty sure we didn't let 7 in. Can remember us letting in six on four occasions though.

As you say though point still remains that Jewell is an awful manager!

Jewell has a very mixed record, did well with wigan, did he do ok with bradford as well? However did poor with us and another club except Ipswich where decent managers have failed. I think he is a gamble if he can get it right then your on a winner if not it goes haywire and is a disaster.

We were already up poo creek with a squad not good enough, unfair to put any blame on Jewell for that.

We also let 6 in against Cardiff under Clough with 11 men on the pitch.

Ipswich fans would be crazy talking about getting rid already 4 games into the season and what he did for them last season. Some new players take longer to settle in than others.
