ChorleyRam
Has Slick Glick done us like a kipper?? Fair enough, we have had some investment, but if you think about the players we've lost, our net spend will be very little.Yet we still have to get rid of 2/3 more players before we can sign anyone. By the way, where has Tom gone anyway?? I couldn't get away from him when it was season ticket renewal time! Maybe we'll sign Waghorn and a proven midfielder and all will be well but i very much doubt it. I hope i'm wrong. This is a crunch first few months for the yanks...and Nige. ChorleyRam
It winds me up what has happened to our club. Fans seem to have accepted how **** we are! Where's your ambition gone? Fans of the 80s/90s would never have put up with this drivel! Yeh we had lows but we didn't sit back and accept them. It's the same every year - another 18th finish beckons and it seems like no1 could give a monkeys anymore. No wonder I'm disillusioned with football and this once proud club. I couldn't believe some of the comments on here after the mighty Shrewsbury dismantled us. Comments like 'Its only the Carling Cup' etc show how far our expectations have fallen. Trouble is, we keep rolling up to pay the third highest admission fees in the Championship no matter what crap is served up, so the Yanks will continue to exploit us, and we will continue to keep falling for it. Give us Premiership stability then I will have interest in these cups, my expectations haven't dropped I have simply prioritised what's important and for Derby it's the league. Doesn't mean I didn't think the performance/result wasn't **** as it was, at the end of the day it's the league what matters. Only if you believed him in the first place, Im still waiting for the "we will judge them on the next transfer window" comment. Lets remember that this has happened for a few years now, we are getting worse as a squad year on year, and the only thing different this window is that Glick stated there will be players coming in to make us competitve. Dont think he stated which end of the league though. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/7221-has-glick-played-a-blinder/#findComment-194857 Share on other sites

SpankWFC
They've made their bed with the promise of biting the bullet and making a significant investment. They have asked to be judged on this season now the financial constraints aren't as tight. Personally I don't think we are far off. A left back, a quality DM and a switch to 4-2-3-1 and we'll be as far on as we can be. If things aren't greatly improved this season i'm not sure what they can do though. We aren't (nor should we) going to throw the sort of money around that some other clubs in our league are. StaffsRam
My only expectation is that if it goes pear-shaped again this season, they do the honourable thing and fook off. No I agree I think you should aim to finish as high up the table as you can and pretty much anyone can finish in the play offs with a good run but then you get told that is unrealistic and Derby fans are in dream land. For all the money spent in this division I still dont think there are that many really strong sides. Ram Raider
And don't forget we are along with eight other clubs 'FOR SALE' according to dispatches  The guy's from the USA are only here to make a profit on our once proud club, when they have 'balanced' the books - lol, they will sell us on AGAIN ! The bigger question I think is whether or not we will improve this season, forget finishing top 6 etc, just IMPROVING and then if we have, you know what they say, from little acorns big trees do grow. Heisenberg
I very much doubt that this thread would of been made if we hadn't of been beaten by Shrewsbury in the week. 5pm on Saturday afternoon, everyone was saying how well we played and now because we've had one bad game out of 2 games, its crisis time. It's only August, and people are already considering Clough's postion!? trooper
People moaning after 1 league game ( which we beat a very good Birmingham team) and one cup team against a tired and unfit side!!! Were they told to be careful in the cup game due to lack of numbers we have fit?? We just don't know.. I do know this though.. Derby county must have the most doom and gloom supporters in the country.. Our glass is never half full always empty!!! Next season the fa are bringing in the budget cap so we needed to trim some big wages off the squad and it's flick that has been pushing for this!!! Let's put it this way, I'd rather be in our position right now than leicesters, or even forest, Cardiff, and Ipswich!!! Living beyond there income so if them teams don't go up this season they could seriously find themselves in **** street, at least we seem to be preparing for the budget cut to come in!!! Don't get me wrong I'm not for the yanks and not really fussed about them being here, but I'm just trying to point out that there are teams in a lot worse position than derby county currently are and will be at the end of the season!! Alph
We weren' the only Championship team to get knocked out the Carling Cup. Infact i think QPR were knocked out both cups in the first game?? Not sure though. Our players lacked enthusiasm for playing Shrewsbury after a 1-0 win over Birmingham. Unproffesional but not the end of the world. We've signed 9 players, but i don't think Nigel has been given enough money to get us top 6. So my expectations for this team is lower midtable. Despite that some of the signings look decent i'd swap most of them for Commons and Bueno. I thought this summer was about building a challenging team? But now we're reliant on sales??!! Eustace, an experienced centre midfield player, was clearly one of Nigels higher targets. Waghorn too. He's not been able to get them. He clearly felt that Eustace was a key part of the team. Yet now he's got to try and shift players before he can gather some cash to bring in a replacement. Why? If he feels that an experienced midfield general is what we NEED, is he forced to sell first? Do our investors really want to make the PL? Or don't they trust Nigel with cash despite the fact this club was in a financial joke before he arrived and sorted it. But the window is still open. A lot of new players need time to have relationships. So maybe we don't know as much about our team as we think we do. Maybe we do have a decent side. But if the window closes, and Nigel hasn't been able to bring in a player like Eustace (who he made it very clear HE wanted) then once again i'll feel a bit let down by our investors. Why expect any more though. There aren't many Lionel Pickerings left in the football world. Not always the case, I have worked and run companies before where year 1 to 3 we have forecasted to make a loss and make profit in year 4 onwards. Reason why, investment to make us better than the competiors so we can reap the rewards from year 4 onwards by increasing turnover, so depends what way you look at it ! And you are saying your happy if it takes us 10 years to be challenging for the play offs, says it all really ! Ambitious
I think a few of the incoming players will be feeling the same way, Shackell and Tyson were brought in on the promise that their would be an influx of signings through the door that would push us on to be top 6 contenders as it is, we have signed 10 but the majority are squad fillers that bring something different to the team. Robinson - Pace Riggott - Experience Maguire - Creativity Kilbane - Experience Legzdins - Cover Bryson, Shackell, Ward, Fielding and Tyson are the players that have come in to play a big part in the first team, could of done with 2-3 more if we were serious IMO.
