This guy was on trial for us When BD was in charge.

KILMARNOCK's Craig Bryson is not a new target for Derby County.

The 24-year-old midfielder spent four days on trial with the Rams earlier in his career.

Billy Davies was Derby's manager at the time and Bryson was a 20-year-old playing for Clyde.

"Craig handled himself very well and is a young lad with plenty of potential. He is certainly not ready for us yet but maybe one for the future," said Davies in 2007.

Bryson is back on Derby's radar. They watched the Kilmarnock captain play against Rangers at Rugby Park at the weekend.

Derby are not the only Championship club thought to be interested in the Scottish international.

Leicester City, Hull City and newly-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion are also reported to be keeping an eye on him.

Bryson made more than 100 appearances for Clyde before he signed for Kilmarnock in July 2007.

He has played 135 times for Killie and scored 14 goals.

This season, he started 33 of 38 league games and helped Kilmarnock to finish sixth in the Scottish Premier Division.

Killie Reject Derby Bid

KILMARNOCK last night threw out a £300,000 bid from Derby County for Craig Bryson and told them they will need to up their bid substantially if they want to land their in-demand captain.

The Championship side, who are also in talks with Aberdeen to land out-of- contract striker Chris Maguire, have now had two offers for the Scottish international, above, turned down by Rugby Park chairman Michael Johnston.

Express Sport exclusively revealed County manager Nigel Clough’s interest in the 24-year-old last month.

Their latest offer is around £300,000 with add-ons but Kilmarnock want the majority of the extra payments guaranteed on appearances rather than the English team’s achievements. Championship rivals Brighton and Watford are also interested but don’t have the financial muscle of Derby.

The Rams are also struggling to agree a fee with Aberdeen for Maguire.

They have struck personal terms with the 22-year-old but are reluctant to meet the valuation of the Dons, who believe they would be entitled to £400,000 if it went to a tribunal.

Derby want Maguire down for a medical this week and he may have to ask for special dispensation to drop out of the Scotland squad to make the trip.

again another gamble, it is always good to look elsewhere than the championship to look for players but i would like someone proven at this level in before we start buying players which may not be good enough for this level.

Every signing is a gamble, some pay off, some don't that's football.

Our midfield is where we need major incomings. If its true that Pringle is really off and the rumour that Pearson is off to Turkey still has something to it, With Green certainly out for most of the next 6 months, our midfield is down to the bare bones. Bailey and Addison are the only two left, unless you include Hendrick. Bryson sounds like a decent prospect, this is where we need that DOF bloke to use some experience and arm twisting to pull this kind of move off. I have a feeling,Pearson is out to gazump Glick at his every move in the transfer market. Hull the only other club who have talked about making a similar number of signings as us.

They have the benifit of the parashute payments as well as The Allam family`s cash to outbid us at every turn.

I like the look of Bryson and Maguire to be honest, would take both of them.

In that passage it's more to do with the add-ons rather than the actual fee which is the stubbling block, 300k + 200k after 40 or so appearances.. sounds good to me.

to an extent yet, but there are different types of gsmbles, a gamble with young scottish players who have played in average or below par teams in the spl like Aberdeen and Kilmarnock is will they make the grade, where as proven experienced championship players we know can make the grade, the question is can they settle in. I would rather see us buy players who are proven championship quality first (the ones which we were promised) and the more riskier signings who may not work out later.

But those signings are always more likely to be later in the summer, as everyone is scratching around for the frees and the other bargains before everyone puts their cards on the table.

But you are not listening to what I'm saying. Everyone else is doing the same, so there is no big movement from any team. So clubs do not want to let people go before they can secure replacements.

No, they want to secure targets prior to letting there players go. So you end up with the out of contract players being sorted first, then a few lesser amounts being spent, followed by a reasonably big move which snowballs the activity.
