I agree with YR, that lad speaks sense.

Here's a little itso factso to chuck in the mix.

Both Chris Porter and Steve Davies have played more games last season than Riggott has managed in the last 3 seasons.

If Riggott was born in Gateshead and never ever played for Derby, started out at Boro moving on to Stoke and Cardiff, played 11 games in 3 seasons, hands up who would be saying sign him up?

The missus says I'm not romantic, I guess this kinda backs her up.

I think my thoughts are well known now so I'll back out of this thread and let you all carry on.

The thing is he was born in Derby so clearly has some passion for the club and the city that someone from Gateshead wouldn't had.

He will be willing to take a pay cut and be on a pay-as-you-play contract.

I know you're not romantic, but you support a club that is built on romantic moments and characters.

CHRIS Riggott is expected to sign a

contract with Derby County in the next

few days and he could face

Shrewsbury Town in Tuesday 's Carling

Cup tie at Pride Park .

The 30 -year- old defender has been

training with the Rams in a bid to earn

a deal after being plagued by injuries

in recent seasons and undergoing

back surgery in April .

He played the first half against Crewe

Alexandra last week but sat out the

final friendly of pre - season against

Aston Villa last night with a sore

Achilles' tendon .

He has had an injection to help the

injury settle .

"We are trying to get the contract tied

up. We have got something in place

provisionally with him," said manager

Nigel Clough .

"It is inevitable that Chris is going to

pick up secondary injuries with him

having been out so long but the main

thing is his back which was the initial

problem and that is fine now .

"We would like to get something tied

up with Chris as soon as we can and

we will try to get him out on the pitch

against Shrewsbury next week. "

Derby- born Riggott played 100 games

for the Rams earlier in his career

before he joined Middlesbrough in

January 2003 .

CHRIS Riggott has signed a one-year contract, based on appearances, with Derby County.

The Derby-born defender trained with the Rams during pre-season and underwent a medical yesterday.

He is building his fitness after being plagued by injuries in the past few years. The 30-year-old also had surgery on a back problem in April.

"He is delighted with his back and so are we. We are just going to have to be patient with the secondary injuries he is likely to pick up after playing so little football," said manager Nigel Clough.

Riggott came through the youth system at Derby and made 100 appearances for the club before moving to Middlesbrough.

He was not involved in last night's Carling Cup tie against Shrewsbury. He has an Achilles tendon problem, which will take about a fortnight to heal.

Having Chris Riggott in the squad will add plenty of experience and he should be a useful figure to have around the club with his Derby roots. His heart is with the club and hopefully, if he gets fit again, he will provide very good cover and competition for places in the defence. Welcome Back Chris!
