WilkoRam
This has probably been posted before but I'm not going through the forum to find out. If it has I'm sure a mod will move my post. Yeah that's right I'm lazy, what of it? Looking at the squad I would keep as a core of players: Fielding (he's pretty much signed) Addison Brayford Barker Roberts Bailey Green Cywka Davies Doyle Davies Ward (again think he's signed) That's 12, I've not included youth in there like Ball, Hendrick, Hanson, etc. With that in mind we need 8-9 players just to get a competitive squad. It needs to be a busy summer. I find it odd that we've signed so many midfielders yet (and I know it's only my personal opinion) I've only got 4 listed as ones to keep (5 if you include Addison). Plus we've spent most of our money recently on defence and I have 4 defenders listed. I know people will say Buxton and Anderson should be in there but personally I feel of we're going to move forward we need to up the quality level to higher than those. Reading this back it seems a waste of a thread, oh well I'm not deleting it - again I'm just lazy.
trooper
I rate anderson!! Better than leacock. I don't think Addison will be the player he was!! He has bulked up to much and is less mobile than he originally was( which doesn't say alot)
davenportram
I think Anderson is one to keep. Barks is out fit the start if the season, Anderson is experienced and better than Buxton to fill in. Also he has another year on his deal and with the best part of a season injured doubt any decent offers would be made.
WilkoRam
Ok ok. We'll add Anderson. I'm hoping Addison will be more mobile after a pre-season. Bit early to write off a youngster. He'll come good again next season.

He'll come good again next season. Seeing as Nigel doesn't trust Addison at centre half he'll be played in midfield, now as long as all he's instructed to do is win the ball and give it to Bailey then that may just work. Think Savage but more mobile...

Him behind Bailey and another play maker, now your talking.

Agreed, i think Addison is the ideal person to protect the back 4, he needs to bulk down a bit tho, and get mobile, but like i said in another post, i remember the Man U game at PP where he was a monster.... I hope we keep Bueno too and with those u mention i think if he adds the right 8-9 its a strong squad potentially, and one that has flexibility to change into the 'horses for courses' ( we need a flexible structure not always 4-4-2, or 4-5-1, i agree with the 4-1-4-1- idea too for certain teams ) team we need to compete in this division. Baileys tidy on the ball but he doesnt really get forward, perhaps under managers orders but i'd like to see if he can influence the game dribbling forward with the ball and scoring goals. SpankWFC
I think he works in midfield but only in a 4-1-2-2-1 formation. Him and Bailey alone in the middle doesn't work. Him behind Bailey and another play maker, now your talking. I think if you compare Bailey to the likes of Alonso (in terms of similarity rather than quality) then a 4-2-3-1 does suit. When trying to win the ball back Bailey can sit in front of the back four while Addison runs around like a headless chicken. When we have the ball Addison drops back in while Bailey can venture (not to far) forward and distibute the ball. Alsonso/Mascherano, Huddlestone/Palacios, that sort of partnership. They just both need to learn their roles and show some discipline/organisation.

Éire Ram
Well, this is what I would do: Stephen Bywater (Sell) John Brayford (Keep) Gareth Roberts (Release) Paul Green (Keep) Shaun Barker (Keep) Dean Leacock (Sell) Steve Davies (Sell/Release) Robbie Savage (Retiring) Theo Robinson (Release) Jamie Ward (Keep) Stephen Pearson (Keep) Chris Porter (Release) Saul Deeney (Release Russell Anderson (Keep) David Martin (Sell) James Bailey (Keep) Jake Buxton (Sell/Release) Ben Pringle (Sell/Release) Tomasz Cywka (Keep) Miles Addison (Keep) Daniel Ayala (Keep) Luke Varney (Sell) Conor Doyle (Keep) Arnaud Mendy (Sell/Release) Mark O'Brien (Promote & Develop) Callum Ball (Promote & Develop) Alberto Bueno (Loan If Poss) Ben Davies (Keep) Jeff Hendrick (Promote & Develop) Ross Atkins (Promote & Develop) James Severn (Loan Out) Brad Jones (Release) Michael Boulding (Release) Ryan Connolly (Loan Out) Lee Croft (Release) Greg Mills (Loan Out/Release?) That would leave us with: GK: Fielding, Atkins, Severn RB: Brayford LB: -- CB: Barker, Anderson, O'Brien, Ayala RM: Cwyka, B. Davies, Greg Mills? LM: Ward, Pearson CM: Bailey, Green, Hendrick, Addison ST: Callum Ball We need: 1 GK 1 RB 2 LB's 2 CM's 2 AMC's (Koumas/Commons-like player and a back up) 4 ST's I think Nigel's current estimate of around 10 incoming players is a little too conservative, for me 12/13 would be a more appropriate number. But the real question is: Are they of the neccesary quality to take us forward? We're going to have to wait and see. Who would you guys like to see the club go after? -JW-
the problem is goalscoring. From the team that played Reading between them they have scored a combined 172 goals from 1714 games in their careers. That is nearly 1 goal per 10 games. Granted, that is not gonna be our first team come the start of August but it is worrying that apart from ward the players with most career goals are Savage then Bueno, neither of whom will be here next season. Then it is pearson followed by Anderson. Not sure how Theo Robinson or John Eustace are going to improve this record
Kevin Hector
Wouldn't it be great if we could get rid of players just like that. I'm sure this highlights the biggest single headache every manager has to deal with. Dead wood, under contract, no other club wants. So taking up part of the wage budget and taking up valuable shirt space of a designated number of squad players. How much of that dead wood has NC, brought to the club I wonder? Éire Ram
Not sure how Theo Robinson or John Eustace are going to improve this record  I think Eustace is a very under-rated player, as are most defensive midfielders/anchor men. They do the jobs that no one notices, so their appreciation value is very low to the average supporter but they are essential for the more skilful, forward players to create and spearhead attacking moves on the oppisition. They cut out through-balls, put in commited challenges and generally give much needed support to the defence, we've been crying out for such a player recently. Watford have reaped the rewards of his experience and consistencey, he's allowed players like Lansbury and Graham to get forward which has subsequently lead to them getting results on a fairly consistent basis this season, they are the only club in the bottom half of the Championship with a postive goal difference. Granted, he didn't particularly impress when he initially came here but I believe he was recovering from injury, this season he has played 41 out of 46 games which is a very positive sign and if he can maintain his form for Watford this season with us, then we should all welcome him with open arms because he will make a significant difference to our team. Also, we need to stop being so quick to judge. Remember Paul Dickov and how EVERYONE slated Nigel's judgement? Yet he ended up putting in some impressive performances! So let's not jump to conclusions, give the guy a chance first.
Stimacked
Core Squad Fielding Roberts (think he will be kept) Brayford Anderson Barker Leacock Buxton (back up, if he can return to fitness Addison (needs a good pre season) Bailey Pearson (started to play well when he regained fitness) Green (probably not back till January) Ben Davies (under contract, but out of favour, hmmm) Stephen Davies, (started to play well when he regained fitness) Ward Robinson (back up option from the bench) Assuming all those below will be let go. we have loads of gaps to be filled to turn this squad into one which can be competative. Youth players with a view to break into first team Conor Doyle Mark O'Brien Callum Ball (Needs more experience on loan) Jeff Hendrick (Needs more experience on loan) Ross Atkins (Needs more experience on loan) James Severn (Needs more experience on loan) Ryan Connolly (Needs more experience on loan) Ben Pringle (Needs more experience on loan) also possible if they are offered contracts Alex Witham Aaron Cole Likely to be sold Stephen Bywater Lee Croft (unless we revert to using out n out wingers) David Martin (unless we revert to using out n out wingers) Luke Varney Likely to be released Chris Porter Saul Deeney Arnaud Mendy (expect he was let go a while ago.)
