EdinburghRam
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/12950670.stm Absolutely ridiculous, a two match ban for swearing. What is our world coming to? I hate having these ****** in charge of English football, and there's nothing we can do about it either. He apologised for it afterwards, what more do they want. Are they going to give two match bans for all the West Ham fans that sang obscene songs at him all match, I doubt it.

EdinburghRam
It's the manner in which he did it though. I know you'll never be able to stop swearing at crowds, especially fan chants, but it's another thing when a professional swears directly down the camera. It's a respect thing and Rooney should know better.
Bris Vegas
respect for who? Rooney had just singled handily dragged his team to the lead and basically the title, after the year he's had that must have been a very emotional moment, he let it get the better of him, he apologised afterwards. What more do they want, just seems like they are punishing the person and not the act

David
If this had been Gareth Roberts after knocking one in off his backside then shouting "off my ******* arse, did you ******* see that, **** yeah" down the camera, it may have got a few cm column space in the Daily Star at most. As it's Rooney and Man Utd the media jizzed all over it, the FA couldn't just ignore it.
Hucknall Ram
Don't think Roberts is even good enough to score a goal like that :-)
EastKentRam
He deserves it cos he's a c*nt. He's such a thug and an angry person, why wasnt he celebrating/looking happy about it, he's just won his team the game. Instead he's mouthing off looking as if somones just started on him. uttoxram75
He should have been banned for running 20 yards to give that Wigan lad a forearm smash. The swearing was stupid but not much worse than goes on most matches. Its Rooney, so its big news in the tabloids.
ramesses
I remember Maradona’s wild eyed stare right into a TV camera. I remember Gerrard running over to a camera and kissing it. But I can’t remember anyone deliberately turning to a television camera and swearing down it. Has any other player done that in the heat of the moment? Or is that another first for the talented Mr Rooney? Whatever you think of the FA, the British media, or Rooney as a footballer, he does seem good at making bad decisions. For me that should of been a 5-6 ban, the FA thinks foul language is more serious than that. I remember Maradona’s wild eyed stare right into a TV camera. Just remembered Drogba did it after a Champions League game, a Google search says he was banned for 3 games. If that's the case why did Rooney only get 2? It's that word again......inconsistent
rynny
He deserves the ban as he has done it down the camera, if it wasn't then it wouldn't have mattered.

David
What about managers during live games when the camera is in the opposite stand zoomed right in on them and you can clearly see them using foul language. If you shove camera's in players/manager's faces you have to expect it when emotions are high. If you watch back he didn't go to the camera but the fans, the camera came right up to him.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDfA062Jiwk The more I watch it the more I still can't even hear clearly what he says, every paper, news channel says something different as well. Asanovic
Not sure how this is any different to Harry Redknapp swearing at the wheeler-dealer comment? It wasn't broadcast live but it did get out, and was all over the newspapers and youtube. Not great from a 'future England manager' - why didn't he get a ban?
