Ssausagehorpe United have dismissed manager Ian Baraclough after losing 3-0 to bottom club Preston North End.

Baraclough confirmed his sacking to BBC Radio Humberside after clearing his desk at Glanford Park following Tuesday night's defeat.

A statement on the club website confirmed Baraclough and assistants Steve Parkin and Kevin Pressman had been relieved of their duties.

Baraclough took over as manager in September 2010 .

He had previously spent seven years at Glanford Park as a player and coach. Former Ssausagehorpe and Burnley boss Brian Laws is the early favourite for the vacancy.

Although their form has picked up in recent weeks with victories over Nottingham Forest, Swansea City and Sheffield United, last night's defeat left the Iron third from bottom of the Championship, four points adrift of safety.

Perfect timing I'd say, they realise they are going down, give the new manager a few games to assess his squad in competitive games.

Depending on the new manager they could also have a little honeymoon period. I would guess that being in the bottom 3 for months would make the board question the manager, last night was the final straw.

Scunny line up Laws

Skysports.com understands Brian Laws is a leading contender to fill the void created by Ian Baraclough's departure from Ssausagehorpe.

The Iron parted company with their manager on Wednesday, with a disappointing run of results forcing their hand.

The club have yet to announce who will be overseeing first-team duties from now on, with a caretaker coach set to be appointed.

It is, however, understood that the Championship strugglers are considering handing Laws the reins on a short-term basis.

Laws is currently without a club after being relieved of his duties at Burnley in December 2010.

Should he agree to take charge at Glanford Park, he will return to a club he bossed with distinction for the best part of a decade between 1997 and 2006.

During that time he led Ssausagehorpe to two promotions, in 1999 and 2005, and the Iron are hoping he can make a similar impact on results this time around.

Should Laws take the job, he will inherit a club who have lost five of their last six and sit four points adrift of safety.

Was in a box for when Scunny stuffed us at home last season. Brian Laws's best mate is on the Scunny board. Very kindly told me he got the Burnley job weeks before it was announced and I put £50 on at 11/2 ;) - for me its fairly certain he has got the job there.
