Not much happening on the forum this week. We must have won a game or something. It's amazing how one match can totally change the scene. It's almost like most fans* only post when things go wrong.

(*or rather, most highly opionated posters who somewhat struggle with balanced views)

We're 9 points ahead of relegation with 9 games left. If someone had told you at the start of last summer that this is where we'd be after losing Hulse and Commons, spending very little money and usually fielding at least 3 loanees per match, you'd probably say: "Well done Clough-but what are the board playing at!"

The way the season has gone though-bad start, brilliant couple of months, then dire-seems to have increased the pressure from the fans. Not on the board for some reason, mostly on Nige.

The pattern of the season is totally consistent with having a young and inexperienced squad, with a rotating door of loanees coming in and out. We've got some talent, but we can't expect consistency without some experience too. We panic towards the end of games, head drop following bad results.

This summer is where it's at for both the board and for Nigel. With Sav and all the loans gone, our wage bill is gonna be tiny. It needs to be the time to pay for some more Shaun Barker's from the Championship, or some good players on a free with bigger wages.

With the exception of Barker, there no one else who can possibly feel put out by new, good players earning more-I'm sure he's been looked after well enough already.

3 'first eleven' players would be sufficient I reckon. Another centre-back, centre-mid and goalscorer, although hopefully Miles can step up into one of those positions. Maybe a GK/Fielding too, but Bywater is probably good enough. Supplement this with a loan full back and a big man and we could do ok. Maybe the 8-10th sort of position that lets us build for a promotion charge the year after.

There's gonna be 3 good teams coming down this year from the Prem-the following year the relegation teams will probably be 2/3 of who goes up this year. That will be our time and who knows, this sticking with the manager and letting him build a squad may work after all. Just splash a bit of cash GSE, or your investment will suffer. Either that or sell-preferably to someone who can offer sustainable investment and growth.

Nothing quite like a sensible post!

We have a young squad, which unfortunately (no matter what league you're in) will mean inconsistent performances. Crewe are the epitome of this performance mechanic - they have some good runs, some bad.

However, I still feel if we finish the season in our current position we will have shown little to no progress which is disappointing considering the early promise shown.

Why we must be labelled as wrist slashers or blind faithers is beyond me.

I did not think we would win another match but have been proved wrong and it may surprise some of you to discover that I am delighted to have been.

My opinion has not changed that we have a really poor team and the jury is still out on whether we have the right man managing us.

It is like flogging the proverbial horse, we need some serious money spent on this squad and until it has we may never find out if we do.

Only someone who hasn't been to a match would say "well done Clough".

The entertainment over the past 3 months or so has been dire, we have lost almost half of our league games this season and compared to January 2009 there has been precisely what progress?

Would you pretend that none of this is down to manager? How many fans would have thought it a good idea to get some proven Championship players signed last summer? Only now does it occur to the manager to do that. Add to that some of the inexplicable decisions such as to have players out of position, agree to a sales leaving the club with just 2 fullbacks in total and striker-less in August/September then who else has to carry the can?

After the ***** prem season and the last two championship campaigns people are edgy and want to see definite improvement on the pitch.

What GSE are doing (if we take it as gospel what they tell us, many don't), is laudable but is negated by other teams not playing the game.

The fact is that players (and their agents!) want the best deal going and will go where the money is.

That leaves us in a double whammy situation. Not only are we not willing to pay top whack in transfer fees but also trying to cut our wage bill at the same time.

Good football on the pitch is highly unlikely in the circumstances.

However, we are football fans. We want our team to compete (most of us realise we won't win titles and cups every year), but we want to see our club having a go.

The majority of posters on this site have had enough of watching poor quality and so tend to post their annoyance, more so when we lose. Its only natural and is no different to conversations you hear in pubs round Derbyshire (and Staffs!).

A decent run til the end of the season with a few decent signings in the summer and all will be rosy again. A poor run and little or no transfers in, will see total meltdown and a board out/ clough out campaign that will not be covered up by any amount of spin doctoring by Glick/GSE.

One problem on here (as with many other boards) is the wums who create poison between real fans which then makes decent debate impossible.

Anyroads, I reckon its purely down to results from now on. Even the most patient of blindfaithers will expect some cash to be made available this summer.

Here's looking forward to a quiet board for the rest of the season. :D
