melsdadian Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 SIMON COLEMAN'S EX DERBY COUNTY PLAYERS v M1 MANAGEMENT SOAPSTARS PRIDE PARK, THURSDAY 19TH MAY, KICK OFF 7.15PM THE BACKGROUND In August 2007 at the age of twenty, my daughter Melissa was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a form of cancer. She fought the disease with great courage but sadly passed away nine months later in May 2008. Mel loved football and it gave her great comfort during her illness. Prior to her diagnosis, I knew nothing of lymphoma, but since her passing I have spent a great deal of time raising awareness of lymphatic cancer. Lymphoma is the 5th most common cancer in the United Kingdom and the most common in the under 30 age group. The football match will not only be an opportunity to raise funds for the Lymphoma Association, who gave her so much support, but also to raise awareness of the disease. THE GAME The game will be played between Simon Coleman & Shane Nicholson’s former Derby County and Premiership Legends and M1 Management’s TV Soap Stars. The Derby side will include Tommy Johnson, Craig Short and Gary Charles, whilst (subject to filming schedules), the M1 Soapstars have in their squad, Danny Miller (Emmerdale), Kelvin Fletcher (Emmerdale), Elliot Tittensor (Shameless), Luke Tittensor (Emmerdale), Anthony Quinlan (Hollyoaks) and captain of the side, Daniel Jillings (Emmerdale/Doctors) with other names to be announced. More details of the M1 management team can be found at http://www.m1management.co.uk/charity/charity.html and also at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=43919138480 TICKET DETAILS The game will be played on Thursday 19th May 2011 with a 7.15 pm kick off. Tickets are available online from the Lymphoma Association [ www.lymphomas.org.uk ], and also at Derek Williams Kitchens and Bathrooms in Western Road, Mickleover. Although tickets can be bought prior to the game, the match is not all ticket and you can pay on the night. MASCOTS We are also on the lookout for mascots for the game, eighty in total. Aged up to 14, as part of their commitment, each mascot must raise £50 in sponsorship. They will then get to walk out with the teams and if confident enough can act as ball boys/girls throughout the game. It's a great opportunity for Junior Rams to be mascots at the Pride Park Stadium and meet former Rams legends as well as TV stars. For further information on being a mascot, please email charitymascots@gmail.com COULD YOU BE A MANAGER? As well as the mascots, we are also looking for two people to manage the respective teams on the night. Each manager will lead their team out of the tunnel onto the pitch, where they will get to meet the VIP guests. They will then watch the game from the best seat in the stadium… the dugout! You won’t be responsible for team changes/tactics etc, but at half time you get that chance.... We want both managers to bring ten friends along with them and at half time, each manager will then manage (or player manage) their own team in a seven a side game (10 minutes each way) on the hallowed Pride Park Stadium pitch where they will play for the Lymphoma Association Anniversary Shield. If you would like to bid for the chance to be a manager at the game, please email charitymanagers@gmail.com ... and bidding starts at £200. OTHER ATTRACTIONS There will also be a raffle with some great prizes and an auction with items that range from a VIP ticket for 4 people to a Derby County ‘Gold’ game next season to signed Premier League shirts. It promises to be a great evening and we would like to thank Derby County for the use of their facilities and the print solution company, Hickling-Squires (www.hickling-squires.co.uk) for their sponsorship of the game. Hucknall Ram Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 That's the cancer I had when I was 3, very very lucky to be alive now, given they gave me 3 weeks to live!!!!! A topic and subject very close to my heart.
melsdadian Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Thanks Thanks for your kind comments, and Hucknall Ram, very best wishes and continued good health to you... If any of you know of any Junior Rams who would like to be mascots whilst raising funds for a great charity, please urge them to get in touch with us. There are still lots of places available, so a Junior team could do it together. Not just the lads, but girls too, walking out onto the hallowed turf on the arm of a Soapstar... can't be bad can it And not forgetting the grown ups.. your chance to manage a team at Pride Park Put your bids in and it could be you and your friends playing in the seven a side game at half time on the day!! Thanks again Ian
Whoneedshuls Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Hi melsdadian sorry for your loss. I was wondering do you know who's premierleague shirts are for auction and how many are there? Also where will the auction be taking place and can anyone bid? Thanks again and I'll be there!
melsdadian Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Auction Hi there, So far we have an Everton shirt, a Wolves shirt and a Chelsea shirt signed, with the possibility of others coming in before the game, as well as the VIP Gold Game for 4 people at Pride Park next season. The items will be auctioned during the game on the night. We also have up for auction the chance to manage one of the two teams, this will involve leading out the teams, watching the game from the dugout and then at half time managing your team in a seven a side game on Pride Park's pitch!! A great opportunity for the two highest bidders to say they managed a team at Pride Park
ladyram Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hi Melsdadian - so sorry for your loss. It's devastating I know. I lost my brother to NHL when he was 30, life hasn't been quite the same since. If we're not working, we'd love to come down to PP and support an extremely worthy cause, will also look at our lil un being a mascot - I'm sure he'd love it! Really hope you have a great evening and raise loads.
desmond_tutu Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 What a fantastic cause!! I'll have to get some tickets
