hopwas2010
Hi Rams fans.. I am new here so please gentle with me Anyway.. before I start, I used to live on Cowley Street for 3 years before moved back to Tamworth and used go to DCFC games (both Baseball Ground/Pride Park) I'll admit I am not County supporter but I do have soft spot for DCFC. Right, against Hull on 22nd will be my first visit to Pride Park since we played Blackburn, i think, in 1999 or 2000. So the question I want to ask you, any decent pubs near the ground.. I have drank in the Navigation Inn, Portland Hotel and many pubs in City and near station (including Brunswick and Alexandra) but I was told there is two pubs in Pride park which I never been. What are they and are they decent? Another question.. is Victoria pub on Cowley Street still going? I haven't been there for 14 years. Many thanks

Éire Ram
I used to live on Walter Street around that time, I left about 6 years-ago and moved to Mickleover, I haven't been back to the West End that much since but I can't say it's changed that much since 1999/2000 at all. The Victoria Pub was closed down shortly after a drug's raid by the Police a few years ago, it was sold off not that long afterwards but I don't think it's been re-opened... I have a feeling it probably won't be used as a pub again.

Shame, I had my 18th birthday party in there and had my first legal drink there.

Can't believe we've got representation from Redshaw, Cowley and Walter Street... fairly big coincidence in my opinion, considering the size of them! Whenever I'd go into that shop I'd see suspicious-looking car radios and fireworks behind the counter that were unofficially on sale. It's a wonder it's not been closed down yet! On nights out we'd usually stop off at the Vic for a pint or two to keep us warm on the walk into town. Happy memories. As far as your original question goes, I'm afraid I can't help you. I am forever loyal to the Brunswick on match days!

Éire Ram
And it's a shithole. It's had a lot of anti-social behaviour problems in the last decade because of the council estate behind the Wreck that has produced some right idiots. Naming no names of course but it makes me a little glad that I left when I did, the problem has been left to fester for 5 years too long which is both the fault of the Police and the Council for failing to act, these problem families/individuals need to be either prosecuted, forcibly relocated to a different area or both because it's getting a little ridiculous. Personally, I think the whole area need's redeveloping, starting with the council estate (especially the flats!) being knocked down and replaced. Doubt that's going to happen in the current financial climate, though.
Stive Pesley
In 2009 the local residents tried to club together to buy The Victoria but I they failed and it was sold to a developer. http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/news/Drinkers-asked-pay-1-200-save-114-year-old-pub/article-661702-detail/article.html As of last year it was planned to turn it into a care home http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/news/Care-home-plans-hotel-city/article-2300924-detail/article.html Drinking on Pride Park There was a bar in the ground but it was sold off and is now a Starbucks franchise Apart from the bar in Frankie and Benny’s there is a large Harvester pub outside the station which is fairly dull, has chain pub quality beer but at least is spacious and warm There is also a Steak House which I think has a bar but I’ve never been in. The other pub used to be Brewsters/Brewer’s Fayre but it closed down a few months ago (which doesn’t say much for Gadsby’s Pride Plaza idea – as the pub nearest to the ground can’t stay open!)
