first time poster. in your opinion

afternoon ladies and gentlemen. ive been a long time follower, but as the title says im a first time poster.

i was just wondering what everyone thought on the squad at the minute and how they would strengthen it. obviously the markets shut, but thinking ahead to the summer who would you like to see (realistic targets only) fill the gaps.

personally i'd like to see something like,

a new keeper. i'd love to see fielding back, the way he commanded his defence was fantastic and he pulled off some great saved when called up. blackburn arny given him a lookin and i pretty sure theyve said he can go.

a new left back is definatly on the cards and i'd like to see another centre back, some one with a bit more pace then barker.

if we end up using cywka as more of a striker, getting tongue back to play on the right of the three would be good. i think he's still a free agent and theres 15k a week krissy the salad dodger commons didnt want going spare, think that should just about cover wages.

if mr glick feels like putting his hand in his pocket and really investing in the future, a cheeky bid on dale jennings would be worth a go, him on the left of the three would be almost worth the extra 100 quid apparently they're gonna charge for a season ticket a little more tolerable.

and finaly, an out and out strikers needed. we've missed rob hulse, who even when we played poorly could get you that goal. some one like Craig Mackail-Smith who never stops working and never stops running leading the line definatly would make that 100 quid just about bearable.

my rants now over. discuss :D

If season tickets go up £100 a lot of people will not renew. And if we get relegated presumably this would not be an option. Even if we do stay up it looks like it will be my the skin of our teeth just as in the last 2 seasons, hardly a great sales pitch.

I think we need goalkeeper, left back defender with pace, defender who is good in the air, and 2 strikers. This is at least 4 absolute requirements, which we are not going to fill adequately with ex non league players.

The current squad may be young, but does it have potential -I think not.

My shopping list would include

1x Goalkeeper

1x Left Back

2x Centre Backs

1x Right Back

1x Defensive Midfielder

2x Attacking Midfielders

3x Strikers

I don't like to ask for much so we can start with those for now please

lol, it's not that bad a a few more palyers to fill the voids and i'd be happy. a little confidence would do this squad some good as we know they can play. the stuff they played earlier in the season was some of the best ive seen since the days of chris the running man powell.

there's some good players in the lower leagues. we're not the only team that takes a dabble. i think ben davies may turn out to be a very good signing.

OUTS -

Bywater

Pearson

Anderson

Croft

S Davies

Savage

Varney

Bueno

INS -

Goalkeeper - Preferably Fielding

Center Half - Must have pace and be good in the air (eg Marriapa, Shittu)

Left Back - Pace, marking, concentration, crossing (John Harley)

Defensive Midfielder - Strength, Composure, Passing (Brian Stock, Grant McCann, Darren Pratley*I know but, one can dream*)

Attacking Midfielders - Creativity, finishing (Dale Jennings, Darren Ambrose, James Coppinger, George Boyd, Peter Leven)

2/3 Strikers - Pace, finishing, strengh (Jordan Rhodes, Billy Sharpe, Richie Lambert, Aaron Mclean, Dave Nugent, Marvin Sordell)

Of course this would depend on the powers that be selling the deadwood for their true market value and putting their hands in their pockets to bring some in. Therefore we'd be lucky to see any decent activity at all...

Top banana. :)

Hi Rockout welcome to the forum. The problem we've got is who to build a team around. Clough has bought predominantly rubbish and let the best players go. Whatever happens I hope he will be able to bring in some quality. I'd rather have 2 quality players than 6 poor players.

That would involve a C change for both the board and manager however.Unfortunately when you fill your team with lower league players you end up as a lower league team.

Are you for real??? Our top goal scorers from the past two season for starters... Jay McEverly & Dean Moxey who're a lot better than Roberts...

And don't give me the crap about the board selling them behind his back, bar Commons, the decision to sell them was made on footballing grounds hence the buck stops with Nigel...

i'm for real ok .............

is that the same j.mac that put half his balls down the line into the crowd

is that the same j.mac that put half the balls he played down the

line into the crowd ?

the jury is still out on moxey .perhaps he just wanted to move from

derbyshire.....either way roberts did o.k tues.

commons.....well ,enough has been said about him and the fact he

lied and was never ever going to sign .

r.hulse , i was whil ehe was here a very big fan of his , but he is now very

injury prone and that slowed him down a lot , but, i did like to see him

strutt his stuff

At least Moxey & MacEverly had pace and looked like they could defend whereas Roberts has shown up in only a few games and shown himself to be a very limited defender.

Hulse would still be scoring goals in this side, I'm sure of it...

It doesnt help when the wide left player doesnt track back and track runners on the overlap. Both Roberts and Moxey have been left exposed by the lack of this in the past.

On Tuesday B Davies was playing wide left and he was tracking runners. This meant that when Roberts did press up and pressure their player there wasnt an easy pass to someone running into space behind Roberts - because it had been filled by Davies.

This also allowed Roberts to get forward with pace and be in position to provide the assit for Buenos goal.

hey up hector. I hear what your saying about lower league players, but there is some real talent in the lower leagues. I trust clough and his staff to find the diamonds in the rough. Yeah fair play moxey never really shone through but up until recent weeks bailey and brayford have looked a bloody steal. We do need one or two quality players and a leader on the pitch, some one with that arrogance and desire not to be beaten. I dont mind how much a player cost or where they come from as long as the understand the importance of the badge and go out and give everything theyve got. Earning their wages like us soft lot do.

Has this website got a direct link to the local nuthouse. I know some of you have met Nigel and fallen in love with Forests number 9. But surely knowone believes we have better players now, than when Nigel took over?

Brayford and Bailey?

I'm up for bets that those two make at least 1 premiership appearance during their careers.

Brayford is not far from the sort of level of Gunter (a c0ck but the best RB in the division for me) and Bailey shows big potential.

Ben Davies, well apart from it being too early to judge he's been perhaps our best player for 2 games now. One game that included Commons too.

Jay Mac wasn't as good as people seem to think he was now that he's gone. He had some good qualities but please don't try and make his departure a stick to goad Clough. He's no loss.

I do agree that if you fill your squad with lower league players that you end up a lower league team. Ofcourse! And i thought that's why people were angry? Because experienced players at this level like Commons and Hulse, not to mention both leading goal scorers, had departed and taken with them more experience. Not to mention the sort of quality and composure that other players could take on board. I thought peoples gripe was that these players hadn't been replaced with experienced quality of the same level?

You look at our team, look for the experienced leadership at Championship level. You discount the mad ramblings of Bywater and go to Barker, then the questionable influence of Savage...... that's it. The experience and leadership takes a rapid decline.

If the frustration of our fans isn't for the lack of experience Championship level quality in the team (and that it'll take a stronger push from the board to buy that class) then what is it about?

Has Nigel really made us worse?

Connolly, Albrechtsen, Ellington, Villa, Sterjovski (who was 300k), Claude Davis (who was 3m), Liam Dickinson, Darren Powell, Zadwhatever, Andy Todd and Gary Teale to name a few gems. Where are these fellas now. In the PL? Scoring for Cardiff and QPR?

Do we have better players now? Yes. And better value.

Do we have the right blend? Nope.

If nigel can supplement this squad with experience at this level (whether that be loans or signings) then i think we'll all agree Nigel has found some class players that a fat **** like Jewell never would of spotted. He'd be chasing Kazmiercek for about £4.5m right now. And we'd still be losing weekly showing no signs of any purple patch.

what an excellent post............

agree with every word .

boy i wish i had a memory like that !!!

that totally sums up what N.C and his team are all about and trying to

do.....

k.h .......it is you that has escaped from somewhere with comments that

are based on rubbish.

get real mate.....when Clough is given some serious clout in the cash

stakes to add to those excellent signings then , and only then can we

judge him and his team....and i.n.h.o ...that day is not far off now....

fingers crossed ay..............;)

I feel like I can vent on this thread, with the current situation I really don't know how much we have available in the summer or who will be leaving (we know savage is going) but the sale of Moxey was a massive surprise, we all know he was hit and miss and in the grand scheme of things that was a position we really needed to strengthen because our left back position was a weak area, now we're left with gareth.. it's significantly worse.

I think in the summer we'll lose Savage, Varney, Croft, Martin, Porter, Bueno, SDavies, Pringle and Buxton. I do then believe our wagebill would be less than 5million (one of the lowest in the championship) but we would need to add close to 10 players, which is a significant job at this level.

We'd be left with..

Bywater, Deeney.

Addison, Anderson, Roberts, Brayford, Barker, O'brien and Leacock.

Green, BDavies, Pearson, Mendy, Bailey and Cwyka

Ball and Doyle.

if we had to go through a season with that team and that squad, we would be a good shout to go down with the worst ever points in the championship, I think that squad would certainly struggle in league one.

I honestly think hand on heart, there isn't any position that I wouldn't strengthen in the summer.

GK, LB, RB, CB, DM, LM, CM, and 3 strikers. I can't see how we can afford that.
