Ambitious
I just read Tedd McMinns comments and it's left a foul taste in my mouth, along with the archie gemmill comments which said Commons was capable of playing for Man Utd..etc however Ted McMinns comments sound very bitter towards our club, although I believe his comments lose all meaning after this sentence.. “He is a tireless worker, he is fast'' which couldn't be much further from the truth, since he is more likely to be lazy and as for this speed he has? I certainly have never seen it. although some bits of his comments that left a bitter taste in my mouth.. “What can he hope to do at Derby? Possibly win the league one? Maybe win promotion one season? Lift the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy perhaps? McMinn believes former Stoke City and Nottingham Forest player Commons, who has also been attracting the interest of Celtic in recent weeks, must get away from Derby to revitalise his career. If it was someone who had never been associated with Derby, then these comments would be fair enough and normally I wouldn't let bitter comments in the press get to me, I mean I never saw him play for Derby and I don't know how much of an icon he is personally but I know a lot of people had a lot of time for Ted at this club and these sort of comments are unwarrented when he could of said simply 'Commons could be a good signing for rangers' I think we've got to be brutal with Commons, he either signs this week or we get rid and look else where, I'm starting to get annoyed by all this backhand talk and he isn't helping matters, I will never boo or abuse him because he hasn't done anything wrong and has been a good, although inconsistent player for Derby over the 2 and half years he has been here, he owes us nothing and I agree but it's got to be sorted out in this up and coming week, keeping him on the books will only be detrimental to the squad IMO although could argue, paying him more a lot more than anyone else in the team would also have the same affect. davenportram
Heres Archie Gemmils verdict on a move to Scotland He said: "If he goes up to the SPL to play for Rangers or Celtic and keeps scoring goals he would be a regular in the Scotland squad. "I don't know about his career at club level, but it would certainly benefit him playing for either of them in terms of his Scotland career. "If he maintains his form he wouldn't have a problem getting into any team - the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are not beyond him. "Kris is without question a gifted footballer, but you've got to want it week in, week out and the problems he has had are in his head. "He was playing in Stoke City's first team as a youngster seven or eight years ago, but since he's been at Derby he's been hit and miss. "If he could play consistently at the level he has been playing at over the last two or three months he would not have a problem being Scotland's first choice. "And if he keeps up that form he would not be playing for Derby - he'd be playing for a bigger club. "There is a question mark over him and until that question mark is eradicated I don't think you can say whether Kris can become a Scotland regular." from http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/scottish-football/95652-commons-would-become-legend.html I also saw the same comments on the daily record too Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/5193-former-players-throwing-the-club-under-the-bus/#findComment-124611 Share on other sites

MuespachRam
I don't know what you are complaining about, they are both completely spot on with their comments. As, every Derby, Forest and Stoke fan will agree, on his day, he is a very very good player, certainly good enough to play at the highest level in whatever country he choses, but, and we all know this too, his day just isn't regular enough, he simply isn't consitant. If he was, he would have been snapped up years ago by one of the big four or five clubs in the country. Like Ted says, if he stops here he wont get to win anything, if he goes to Rangers he has a 50/50 chance of winning the league/cup. And just as Archie says, if he was consistantly as good as he could be he would be playing for United or Chelsea.....but he isn't. jongrea
If I was Kris Commons I think I would probably be looking to move away: We, as a club, appear to be going no-where in the near future and at this stage of his career it could be one of his last opportunities to make a 'big move'. He will more than likely earn a fair deal more than we can currently offer if he moves north of the border. There would also be the chance of a couple of European games once a year. I think reasons for him to stay will be that he is used to the local area (being with Stoke, Forest, and us). Also if he stays with us he will be our 'big' player, whereas if he heads to Rangers / Celtic he might not be. Unfortunately for us I think the benefits of moving to the SPL outweigh the benefits of staying with Derby. Hartley Hare
I don't know what you are complaining about, they are both completely spot on with their comments. No they're not - not unless you agree with Ted that we might win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. From the JPT website :- "As proud sponsors of the Football League Trophy, this cup competition offers League 1 and 2 clubs the opportunity to play at the magnificent Wembley stadium and enjoy their own piece of cup glory! " So you (and Tin Man) think we're going down this season, do you? ShaunTheRam
He is a totally different player to Darren Fletcher - that's no comparison. Fletcher has Giggs, Berbatov and Rooney around him, not to mention Carrick and Scholes, to do the job that Commons is trying to do for us, i.e. provide some flair and quality to win games. Fletcher is more comparable to Green (maybe slightly better though...) HoratioSC
"If he maintains his form he wouldn't have a problem getting into any team - the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are not beyond him." LMFAO. Archie must be losing his marbles - Commons looks pretty good at this level but there is absolutely no chance he'd make it in those teams. He's nowhere near consistent enough for the Prem - he'll always be a nearly man. I'd rather he by our nearly man though... I think that is without a doubt, the most ridiculous comment I have ever heard/read! My grandfather is better than Fat Frank. On his day, Commons is way better than Fat Frank, mainly because he can actually kick a ball in a straight line without scuffing it.
