Best 11 based on who we have…

Recommended Posts

Leave the ‘think we’ll get Ebou’ or ‘reckon Barkhuizen will extend’ suggestions for the transfers and retained list thread. This is just if the season started today, what would your team be?

Obviously it’ll change as we announce new contracts and signings but interesting to see just how far ‘off it’ we are currently and whether the transfers address what we think are our weak links.

I’ll start - sticking with Paul Hoddle Warnes 3 at the back.

                   Vickers

       Nyambe Nelson Cash

Ward   Fornah   Fapetu    Elder

       NML Washington CBT

Think it’s clear that we need to be bulk buying central midfielders and forwards 😂

Rooney comes in for Fapetu. I would also put DBrown in the 11 instead of Washington.

Bradley and Wilson are the only other 1st team players contracted. Good arguments could be made to include them in the 11.

What is the contract situation of our better youths - Bardell, Cox, Moloney, Radcliffe, Richards etc.

We're exactly as you'd think - very lopsided.Great at right wing back, but pretty sparse throughout the spine.

Some sort of line up using contracted players. :-

Vickers

Nyambe Nelson Cashin

Rooney

Ward, Fornah, Radcliffe, Wilson

Mendez-Laing

Collins

Bench

Evans, Bradley, Elder, Robinson, Fapetu, Weston, Blackett-Taylor, Brown, Washington.

Bardell just nudged off the bench for balance

I’m not sure D Brown is ready for championship yet. Lads put a few good performances together against some cloggers in non league. Washington has spent half his career up in the champs. He might not be inspiring but I’d bet money he’d be more effective right now than Brown. Brown obviously has a higher ceiling though.

Robinson and Radcliffe out of contract this summer. As is Collins.

We obviously need another number 9 and enforcements in CM as a priority.

Vickers - Nyambe Nelson Cashin - Wilson Fornah Rooney Elder - NML Washington CBT

Leaving Ward & Bradley as first team backups

We need to focus on actual firat team quality, I feel like we have decent squad players now but er need to improve the starting 11 significantly, especially centre mid & striker

Bringing this topic back to the top of the pile now we know what we’ve got to play with until January.

Im thinking

                     JWZ

Nyambe Phillips Cashin Elder

        Ozoh Osborn

              Kenzo (or Wolves lad)

Jackson Yates Harness

or

                JWZ

   Nelson Phillips Cash

   Ward Ozoh Kenzo Elder

  Jackson Yates Harness

Option 2 is the one.

With the likes of Wilson, Nyambe, Bradley, Adams, Chirewa, Thompson, NML, Collins/Brown, CBT/Barkhuizen rotating in where necessary.

Looks a decent squad now (except missing the elusive "big number 9") I do think Yates will score goals if we create the opportunities.

The squad is more than good enough to survive, over to you Warne & Co 👍

Interesting that Chirewa, a highly-rated Wolves player, doesn’t make it into many starting elevens based on one performance.

He may well be the spark we need!

There’s only been 1/2 starting elevens written on this thread since he signed

Option 2 is what I think he will go for.

Plenty of depth to cover all positions

He's the least experienced of all our attacking players. He wouldn't start ahead of Jackson at RW, and Harness is a better AM

I prefer option 1. Having the extra body and presence in the middle of the park. Don't think Kenzo would be as effective in a two man midfield pivot either. He's best given freedom to find and pick the holes.

It's good to have options though.

What’s pleasing is looking at our current squad, we have the players to be able to play multiple systems without having to play square pegs in round holes. With 9 players on the bench in the Championship, we should also be able to switch from one formation to another within the same match if required. I really like the idea of being able to change it up and not being locked into one particular system be it 4 4 2 / 3 5 2 whatever.
