angieram
Of those, I do wonder about Dylan Williams. Still playing under 21 football at Chelsea. Would he be our regular left back if he'd stayed? Still only 19 so plenty of time for him, of course. admira, Crewton and Premier ram

vonwright
You could field a pretty strong team of "top Derby youngsters who moved to a top-tier club and basically disappeared" - not just Williams and Festy but Gordon, Delap, Ebiowei, Plange. Even Bogle was a bench player for a long time in the Premier League. It's completely understandable how clubs (and players) move so early now, but a shame nonetheless. GangwayD
Always thought Isaac Hutchinson looked a real prospect. Not sure how he is doing at Walsall. Williams looked class, and wasn’t surprised we got picked off by Chelsea. Still think he will have a good career. Cheers Gangway D from the terrace Premier ram, Crewton, angieram and 1 other

Many thanks. Makes you wonder how much convincing he needed. To be fair to Wayne, without being a party to the conversation I would imagine he told him it was a great opportunity. Something you’d expect all honest and decent managers of lower league clubs to say. I somehow doubt him and his family were begging Wayne to let him stay at Derby. Wasn’t it the case that he was out of contract in the summer and we couldn't offer him a new contract because of EFL restrictions, so selling him in January was the only way we'd have got any real value for him? Of course, it's always the player's decision these days, and we couldn't offer them any guarantees about their futures, but it sounds like both Williams and Kellyman were "encouraged" to take the opportunity and, undoubtedly, the fees received for both helped to pay the wages, so perhaps Quantuma asked Rooney to assist in helping them make that decision? cstand
Blondest Goat
Rooney was quoted at the time as saying he couldn't deny Williams the opportunity and that it had been his decision and not one forced on him by the admins. https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/derby-county-transfer-williams-rams-6530290 Edited February 18, 2023 by Blondest Goat .
