If you draw an imaginary horizontal line half way up the goal, you can see the ratio of scored to missed is higher when aiming high. I’ve always wondered why players don’t aim high when taking penalties. Yeah you could hit it over or hit the bar, but they are pretty a guaranteed goal when you hit the target. Compare that to low shots and look how many are saved. The data is surely flawed because most keepers expect penalties to go low and dive accordingly? The more penalties that get hit higher, the more keepers will gamble on that outcome which will mean more saves. It only works because it’s not an outcome that happens often with a penalty. TuffLuff
One fantastic thing to come out of a World Cup is seeing emerging talents arrive on the centre stage, especially when we can no longer keep on top of European football/champs league like we once could. Don’t think many will forget Gancelo Ramos’ after tonight Edited December 6, 2022 by TuffLuff

It’s not just that Ronaldo occupies a forward space and offers no pressing or defensive solidarity, his absence also allows others to assume more responsibility. Portugal’s attacking players probably now feel they have more leeway in the final third rather than having the thought of always finding Ronaldo. Leao is a serious talent. But in players like Bernardo Silva, Cancelo and Ruben Dias they have players who know what it is like to win regularly. I wouldn’t put it past them reaching the final. They certainly have more about them than Spain to break down Morocco. Premier ram, ariotofmyown and Van der MoodHoover 2
ariotofmyown
Which was funniest: That penalty shoot out vs Spain when CR7 waited for the last one and didn't get chance to take it. Portugal were better than Spain in that game too but CR7 missed loads of chances (if I remember right). Or... The Euros that Portugal won, when they drew all 3 group games, then ended up with an easy path to the final. They were dire throughout, but only won because CR7 went off injured and suddenly they looked like a team. Or... CR7 being dropped tonight and Portugal looking like a brilliant team for the first time during his career. Love that he came on as sub and still didn't score. Missed the game, so assume he was desperate to score. He was obviously a brilliant player for most of his time at Real. Juve basically bankrupted themselves and got much worse with him playing for them, even though he was supposed to win them the Champions League. City tricked United into signing him and he has cost them a fortune and been pretty hopeless. Now has left in disgrace with his reputation ruined. Please sign for PSG Ronaldo! Imagine you are an ex-player pundit who doesn't actually know a great deal about football tactics or analysis, hence you didn't get into coaching or managing. Would you try and describe the pattern of the game and what is happening beyond where the ball is? Or do you just keep going on and on about the star player, not realising it is a team sport? Why is Messi thriving in this Argentina side when he was poor in so many others? Must be cos he is now a much better player at PSG then he ever was at Barca right? No star player to talk about? Just go on and on about one very close decision that could have gone either way!

Yes, noticeable how some of the younger subs just defaulted to "have to find Ronaldo" even when there seemed to be better passing options. Either Portugal or a massed Morocco will be a very stern test even if England are able to beat France.

If we beat France we should beat anyone. Morocco likely to have injury concerns. But if we don’t win this WC would LOVE them to do it. They’re a bit weird the Portuguese with their stars. If you think CR is overrated, can you remember Luis Figo? Yeah I see he actually pushed Zidane (then aged 28, in his prime) into second place for the ballon d’or (but Zidane had just won it a couple of years earlier). Reckon he lost his zip quite early in - unlike pastel da nata and wine from the Duoro I don’t think he reflected the level of the Portuguese hype. Even funnier than that - he did score, but he was so far offside that even he knew that he was miles offside, but still ran through and slotted it away. The crowd went wild, but the look on his face was great. He couldn't celebrate because he already knew it didn't count ariotofmyown and Crewton 1

Foreveram
score has many definitions such as, success in obtaining something (such as money or drugs) especially through illegal or irregular means, so not necessarily the first.?
