Messi leaves Barca

If you was offered the option between the two to help you win the CL, clearly you would take Messi even at 34, I can't believe for a second that Pep would have chosen Grealish.

Would a 34-year-old Messi fit into City's high-pressing style though?

I don't watch anywhere near enough football outside of Derby to have strong opinions on this, but I feel that PSG and Juve are almost going to be worse off by making huge allowances for the ageing versions of Messi and Ronaldo.

When you have a player like Messi, you make it work. I don't think you would find a manager in the world that say, nah, not interested as he doesn't fit our system.

Not sure how PSG would be worse off, their merchandise with the Jordan branding, chuck in Messi and you're looking at an insane amount of revenue to cover the signing.

They shouldn't even need him either for the league, they should be able to walk that with ease anyway, but if he does help them finally win the CL, thats more money in the bank.

Not that PSG are overly bothered by revenue as FFP doesn't apply to them.

I'm strictly talking on the pitch here.

I just feel, with the margins being so small and the top teams being so reliant on pressing as a unit, changing your style to accommodate a 34 year old probably isn't the way to go. I haven't watched a single minute of Juve since Ronaldo has been there, but they didn't seem to do too well this season either (obviously there are lots of other factors that play a part in this).

Prime Messi who was constantly harrying defenders would be an absolute dream in any team and worth breaking the bank for. 34-year-old Messi who doesn't do much work off the ball to conserve his energy? I don't think he's worth moving heaven and earth for when you've got Mbappe and Neymar anyway.

And this is in no way a criticism of Messi. He's my favourite player of all time.

Agree we were right to pass on him this time around. And how do you shoehorn him into a side with Ravel Morrison anyway? He might have looked good in the shirt, but wouldn't cope with our high pressing game.541246887_20201030MessiDerby_144731.thumb.jpg.947a8ddbedb425dbb118dc19ba5f247b.jpg

Messi barely moves out of possession these days. It only becomes a problem when the other outfield players can't compensate for that lack of pressing. Barca have been easy to overrun these past few years. It's why they got battered against Liverpool, Bayern and PSG who were all far fitter and far more energetic. In that 8-2 game, Barca lined up with Messi, Suarez, Vidal, Busquets, Alba and Pique who were all in their 30s. Throw in Lenglet, Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo and it was a mix of oldies + average players.

At PSG he will be fortunately surrounded by far fitter players. Di Maria, Verratti and Wijnaldum will make up an energetic midfield. Hakimi is a running machine, while Mbappe and Neymar are rapid.

I think they can accomodate him in the 10 position, and out of possession he will stay central as a 9 with Mbappe and Neymar likely dropping wide with the three midfielders (Verratti, Wijanludum and Di Maria) covering through the middle.

Cheers, will be interesting to see how it pans out.

7.5 million x let’s say $100 a shirt = $750 million

I don’t think sums is Mr Crow’s specialist subject

Take away the cost of shirts, the manufacturer’s cut, and the seller’s cut (wages), you’ll get closer. The turnover isn’t pure profit.

Plus, Kit manufactures will pay a club a set fee for say 3 years. Basically the club get the kit sale money up front.

During those 3 years the vast majority of kit sale profits will go to the kit manufacturer, not the club.

There maybe a sliding scale if sales exceed a certain amount each season.

Also, Messi might get his own cut.
