Totally agree with your first example but don’t follow or understand the second.

If they need time to cool off just don’t log in. I’ve done that myself on here, someone gave me the right hump, badly, I just took six months away from the forum, sorted myself out and came back when I felt like it. I would have been pretty fed up if I’d asked David to delete my account then asked him if I could come back and he replied “No baalocks, the place is better without you”

Once again, sorry about that!

Transparent and open, my arse!

Nobody wants to know that your arse is open and transparent…!?

@Boycie can you ban him for this please.?

( @David I actually appreciate everything you do to keep this forum alive and kicking, I have honesty told my wife that if i get run over when i am out riding that the second thing she needs to do (after telling my family) is to tell you and all the people on here!)

Wasn’t you old son, you’re one of the reasons I logged back on. There’s a manly handshake (Covid permitting) and a pint or two if our paths ever cross. ?

Nah, I'm in the chair that day, while i pester you for music anecdotes.

An unhealthy addiction, perhaps? I think it’s quite common for gamblers to ask bookies to ban them to prevent them from any impulsive gambling.

Maybe it’s the same on here. Getting dragged into spats isn’t good for their health and wellbeing so perhaps asking to be banned could allow time to cool off.

A surprising number of people think that they can just create a new account and pretend they are someone else. Don't do that, it's not so simple.

I initially was going to do that a few days ago. It wasn’t important for me to return using my existing username, I just wanted to return to posting as a regular fan.

Been a few times I’ve had posts deleted for (in my opinion) quite rightly calling people out on their nonsense, there’s also been times where I don’t really understand why it’s been deleted. It’s a forum at the end of the day… life moves on!

for the record I think all the mods do a fantastic job!

Hear what you're saying but there's times when you can see when an argument is getting personal and spiralling out of control with tit for tat insults and just becomes an unhelpful distraction from the thread itself so quite rightly the mods have deleted it to defuse the situation and get the debate back on track. Not saying yours were deleted for that reason by the way.

I've had this happen to me (I know can never imagine that) but the person then has carried on by DM me with the same stuff.....they've been banned or their account deleted now but it's just a step too far.

By the same point I've had a member whose still very active DM me with personal context about things I've posted, total respect to them, they know who they are.

They probably deleted your posts as they don’t understand the long words ? for the record I actually enjoy your posts more than most, you tend to get a lot of stick but the way you articulate yourself is very readable ?

This is not just a forum, but now a community that has been built over a number of years ... I appreciate it as it's been a difficult year for the moderation ... I am working on a system where members are made aware when their posts have been hidden which will be left with the reason by the moderator.

Thanks v much for your efforts.

Always enjoyed your posts, and since you have returned your points are as interesting as before. Don't even recall why you 'left' but good to have you back.

A couple of times I have been really irritated by snipey replies myself but have just about resisted the urge to get properly down and dirty. I think if anything the mods could take more stuff down more quickly or put the 'contributors' into a private message room so everyone isn't getting sidelined by the argument and any oxygen provided by the public display is reduced.

Good points there Chester. Problem is we're not on all the time, most of us work, (not like David who spends most days in his PJ's), have all the usual family commitments and its impossible to read every post in every thread.

The report function will alert us to have a look at something that we may well miss but I do understand not everyone likes to use it.

@David I've lurked around on this forum for some 6 years now, but only started participating not that long ago in the scheme of things.  It'd be interesting to know the level of complaints, leavers or banned over the past 18 months against what you experience "normally".

With COVID and the stress this has caused many of us personally affected by the illness, or through lock-down, plus the nightmare that's surrounded our club during that time, I wouldn't be surprised if some members were more negative or challenging than they would normally be, using the forum as an opportunity to get things off their chests, not least when they couldn't do it down the pub, or at a game. Conversely, some were (are) probably more sensitive as a result and perhaps take things more personally than usual.  It's a thin line.

I know lots of members socialise off platform and are friends so it is difficult at times for others looking in to know that some things said will be to mates and so won't be taken as offense.  As for me, I don't know anyone of here personally (at least, I assume not) so for me, much as I'm not afraid of confrontation, I try and ensure anything I write is considered and respectful. But that's just me.

Kudos to all you guys and gals who run and moderate this great forum.  It can't be easy letting us have a voice at times.  As I've said before, with a lot of poo in my life this past 2 years, this forum has been a great release for me.  Keep up the good work.

To be honest I don’t think there has been much of a difference.

Most of the complaints have moved from politics thread to Covid which they think we don’t realise is a secret politics thread.

It can be fun to watch the left v right trying to go at each other under just Covid knowing they are itching to bring Brexit up.

Bans probably would have increased with trolls from other clubs, but I now manually approve new members. If you live in Bristol or Leeds it’s going to be tough getting on here at the minute, sorry!

Leeds fans especially are a different breed.

Nottingham is more difficult due to the location, but we haven’t had as far as I’m aware many if at all. To be honest they haven’t really needed to come on as some of our own fans are doing a great job laying into the club, they can just sit back and enjoy.

What I would say is though, I’ve noticed more tension members, back and fourths whilst staying within the rules since the first lockdown.

It may have eased now if we wasn’t in the situation we are now and Rooney hadn’t put us across the front pages of the tabloids for the wrong reasons.

We could do with getting a few players in and be comfortably mid table, things might start to ease before we move into the no ambition, miles off top 6 stage again.

@DarkFruitsRam7 once requested to have his account banned so he could focus on his studies.

That would be the best route as at any point we can unban on request.

Deleting accounts, there is no going back, that’s not me being awkward, but deleting wipes you from the forum database. No recycle bin to recover.

As Uttox said, moderators have their own lives, work, family, pub.

Think of it as volunteer work with no set hours, they come and go as they please and can go to Skeggy for the week without asking for approval.

I’m the only “full time” if you like moderator and we have on average 30k posts a month, it’s impossible for me to personally read everything.

Not physically impossible but mentally impossible.

I’m generally an optimistic, positive type of person, it can be difficult at times reading topics and not letting it effect your mood.

You could argue that creating a forum where you will see all kind of opinions wasn’t a great idea, at times I would agree! But I don’t think there’s a forum admin that wouldn’t go crazy if they had to read every post.

It’s not always things like negativity, but Derbyshire cricket for example I have zero interest in, the other moderators will have their topics they have zero interest in.

I like to think we have things fairly well covered but 2 members could be having a right slanging match in the cricket thread, but until the moderator(s) that do read that topic come online it can be multiple posts deep to remove if they haven’t been reported.

I think some people see reporting posts as grassing, snitching, but really it helps improve the forum. If a post receives X number of posts it’s automatically hidden from the forum with 0 moderators online.

Would be nice to see more reports which are not from the Covid thread, they really do help!

I find the hostility our members have to other fans quite annoying at times.

Obviously you can have those who just come on for a wind-up, but way more often they are genuine fans interested in discussing the match and our relative positions at that time.

You will see our members going down the 'you are a tiny club' route really classlessly without any reason... or the 'haven't you got better things to do on your own club's site' etc. What does it matter, maybe they are bored of the same views and discussions.

The views of visiting fans are often the ones I find most interesting. Maybe there could be a visiting fans thread if it offends other people that much - but generally I think the match day thread is the perfect place for it.

Whilst we don’t do anything to encourage other clubs fans to join the forum, we do not have a you’re not welcome sign up unless we know they are here to do nothing but troll.

I mean what would a Leeds fan really have to come on and say right now? We’re not even in the same league.

I did make a recent change in where “Away Fans” are placed in a separate group with different permissions. They can’t vote in polls or post in the main Derby County Forum.

We only have a couple of resident away fans, Forest fans, which were dangling juicy maggots into topics.

They are now using the Forest thread in the Football Forum to have a pop at us which kinda works now as they have always been pull each other’s leg topics, you know what you’re getting into in there and it doesn’t effect members that have no interest in them.
