Stearman is a definite no go tbh and unless we are absolutely desperate for bodies or out of options we shouldn't be touching him with a bargepole. I'm not particularly convinced a 38 year old Jagielka can do a job for a season at this level either anymore. Given that we've only 1 cb who played 10 minutes last season on our books we need to be looking at a reliable cb pairing who can play 35 games together. I seriously doubt Jagielka can manage it at his age but might be a potential 3rd cb I guess.

I'm not sure who you're referring to. Davies (not technically on our books at the moment) played for 1006 minutes last season, and JBrown 22 mins (came on in midfield)

Tony Benson previously of Woking and Roy Hedges of Concorde FC have been seen amongst the new faces training with the Derby first team squad, Benson (54) and Hedges (47) are hoping to show Rooney they are up to the challenge ahead. Benson was said to be very surprised to receive the call, as he was tending to his allotment at the time, but he will be hoping he can win over the gaffer and secure his first club since retiring 16 years ago.

According to sources the club are pressing ahead with signings for the new season after Wayne submitted his shopping list to the clubs recruitment team, written on the back of a cigarette packet.

Jagielka is 39 in August. Surely we are not actually going to offer him a contract!

We gave Ibe one and I didn’t think he would play just by looking at him whilst Jagielka is a completely different and good option both for us and him, I would assume he is back living in Sheffield ( if he ever left) so a fairly easy commute for him.

ffs well hearing that Jagielka and Stearman might be options really gets the pulse racing …wow!! I mean come on surely there are some younger lower league players who we could be looking at ffs there has been a lot of players been let go by there clubs due to financial reasons and yet we are looking at Statler and Waldorf !!!
Stearman is utter poo I’m afraid I’d rather try Buchanan there than sign him ….our scouts are the envy of the league

This really is sad times at our club ….going to be a long hard season

Paul McGrath read the game that well he played international football at a serious level in midfield for 8 years. He played till he was 38 as he hardly had to move position as he was aware of what was happening 10 seconds in advance.

Jagielka can't do that he needs to be mobile.  Stearman definitely can't as he was turd 10 years ago.

Any chance Wazza could convince Pele to come and play for us, might fill the void upfront ?

The problem with signing promising youngsters from lower divisions is that they cost money. There may be a small problem with that.

We're limited to free agents and loans right now.

Free agents previously at PL/Champ clubs:

  • Gary Cahill
  • Scott Dann
  • Phil Jagielka
  • Adrian Mariappa
  • Richard Stearman
  • Richard Keogh
  • Tommy Elphick
  • Sol Bamba
  • Tom Lees

Cahill and Dann will likely be out of our price range. Maybe Lees too. Bamba, Mariappa and Elphick would struggle to stay fit for any meaningful length of time. I doubt we'll ever go in for Keogh. So Jagielka and Stearman...
