Who shall we buy then?

Pretty depressing prospect. Reading Rob Dorsett's tweets yesterday & his article on skysports com, they suggested Alonso wanted to focus on bringing young, hungry & good value players to the club and expand our foreign scouting network a la Brentford. Started to feel enthusiastic as that was exactly the direction we needed to take.

Now Alonso has apparently come out with these remarks, fans will be disappointed with anything less than a big spending regime. That will bring pressure particularly with fans due back at PP from August. Spectacular lack of judgement from a young guy obviously wanting to impress.

He needs wise heads around him & to stop giving clickbait interviews.

£20 million on one player.

£150 million budget.

It's burning a hole in the Derby County pocket.... Who shall we buy then?

I'm afraid with FFP restriction by the time he gets to spend 20 million on a player it will be worth a tenner in todays money.  Perhaps that's the implication.

Our amortisation policy means it's not a problem to sign a player for £1b up until the moment he leaves the club

Interesting how his first statement said they won’t be making any other comment until EFL approval and then next minute he’s having an interview telling all with Sky...

How do you know the EFL haven’t already given that approval?

Might be worth reading/listening to his whole interview before writing the guy off.

Basically said if we needed to spend 20m on a player he would but if a player on a free improves us he would do that too, so basically of it improves us be is willing to do it, isnt that what we all want? He also said he wont just throw cash around etc. Dorsett has picked a highlights reel for his tweets but with little context.

Back to the topic, if possible I wouldnt mind Clarke being made permanent, seems realistic if the take over goes through and we stay up.

Dorsett didn't really need to provide context - Alonso stating he would be willing to spend £20m on a player (whether he meant in this division or not) speaks for itself, instantly raises fan expectations & most foolishly, raises the asking price of any player we enquire about in the summer. First story Morris should have told him about was the Ollie Watkins fiasco.

No problem with him saying money was available but it was the £20m figure that he threw out (plus agreeing to the question that he could potentially spend £150m to get us promoted) that has done some damage I feel. Rooney will also want to hold his feet to the fire come June/July.

Going to be difficult for us to do business under the radar now & that's a recipe for overspending & poor decisions.
