I also missed the goal, I turned it off in a mard part way through the second half when Christie was taking an age over a throw in. Saw that we'd equalised via twitter and ran back downstairs for the last 7 mins.

Did the same last year and missed Martin's 97th minute equaliser. When will I learn to just see it through?

Like the forest fan that jumped into the Trent to celebrate their ” victory “

I think the biggest factor outside of Covid is the moving of kick off times to suit the police and/or Sky.

Totally agree and not to mention that no one ever makes a tackle anymore because a referee believes all tackles are fouls and a yellow card

Everything in the original post. Covid has obviously played a big part on the overall excitement of football. But as stated previously, these matches have been dull for a while. Think a break from them all would be best.

Alternatively both teams get promoted next season and a prem standard East Midlands Derby could inject some passion and foreign salsa in to proceedings.

I think the game has been missing any sort of proper characters involved in the games who really get what the game is. There’s no pantomime villain for either side, even Worrells comments are cliche driven drivel and makes your eyes roll more than anything.

I’d also maybe add how the games have been reffed haven’t helped. I don’t think the game is allowed to flow when we keep getting fouls for little nothing challenges because it gives him a fake sense of control. The last two games we’ve had two absolutely crap decisions go against us, one which cost us two points and one that would have put us in the driving seat on Friday night. Comes from refs afraid to getting decisions wrong. I guess it’s a fixture that we haven’t got a lot of fortune out of in the last few years.

Be interesting to see how many times we have played at Three O'clock on a Saturday in the last 30 years or so I am pretty sure that there were a a lot of games from the mid nineties onwards that we played at night.

Would say mostly due to covid and no fans. Every match has lost its spark. Maybe we are also sick of playing each other, plus there are not as many fights and red cards as there were a few years ago (seemed to be constant).

I agree, it used to be brilliant in the Nigel / Billy days!

Feign a knock on the head and the game is stopped, The players know this, Our Refs who were seen back in the day as the best in the World have fallen faster than a Meteorite heading for earth, Incompetant to get the most simple decision right or wrong, Atwell and Mason this weekend is proof that these Nom de Plumes are best served for a circus, Preferably in the Lions cage dressed as Clowns.

I think Covid overshadows everything. The game last season, with them going for a play-off place would have been a good atmosphere if the fans were there, but at the moment both teams don't have much to play for with both looking more comfortable presently in the relegation battle, which makes the game feel flat.

I do agree that forest have for some reason turned into one of, if not the worst teams to watch in recent seasons which doesn't help.

Yep, agree it is Covid. For me this has resulted in two key things. Emotion - with no fans emotions do not escalate in the same way, all of the games are flat to experience. The second is empathy. I remember Roy Keane having a rant about the Manc Derby and how players were hugging and chatting after the game. Everyone in the world is going through the same thing right now, this has been a big leveller. A lot of people talk about the privilege to play football but that is just their job and they work very hard to do it, they are fundamentally just in the entertainment business and exist for us. They still have families and are experiencing the same reality as the rest of us. I dare say the shared reality of covid makes us care a bit more about our fellow human, at least I think that is what I see, so the hatred of a local Derby is eroded.

Having said that, I genuinely think when we get back to Pride Park the atmosphere will be insane. I think the players will be driven wild by the crowd. You have to remember a lot of our players have basically never played with an atmosphere, they won't know what's hit them.

Unusually we are on a similar run, I think the competition with Forest could be great over the coming year.

Without fans for me it just becomes a big friendly game, Football over the years had taken the fans for granted, Chuck the chickfeed down and we'd feed on it, We were seen as a cash cow then thrown away like a used fast food take away wrapper, Now with Covid those with influence in the game realise...we count.

The only thing those with influence care about is money. They don't care what state they leave the game in and will get away with as much as they can. They don't view fans as "fans", they view them as customers. This is what's really making all football everywhere lose it's spark. Why do you think things like VAR even exits? It's not to actually help the game, it's to add more content/talking points to the highlights of a game, more highlights=more viewers=more $$$. Eventually English clubs will no longer be clubs they'll be franchises like in American sport. You'll see teams like Man City relocate to Abu Dhabi. I actually think something like the European Super League could save the rest of football by acting as a magnet to all the commercialism. All the stupid "fans" (customers) and tourists can flock there and leave the real fans alone.

Anyway.. what was this thread about again?

The games have lost their bite since the clough vs davies games when it felt like anything could set off a brawl on the pitch. I think that was down to both the managers who seemed to personally loathe the other and the fact that both teams had players who had played for the other team. The atmosphere's at those games were something else and unfortunately I think it has been quite tame in recent years. Both teams have played each other successively for a long time and being stuck in the same division adds a blandness to the fixture.

I suppose sometimes you have to sacrifice playing style for success. All that sacrificing last season for them was definitely worth it, reaching the holy grail of 7th place.

The problem is that we are both a bit crap.

if we could thrash them 4-0 then that might ignite some interest. But the quality is so poor.

both sides seem to be happy to accept a 1-1 draw beforehand and just to avoid defeat.

The fact that we haven’t beaten them for so long is pathetic really.

Whilst it’s been pathetic we have contributed massively especially when we look at the goals we have let in, Bogle twice in two games Marshall in the last one Hamer the other season, all the most soft and stupid goals ever

Being the two longest serving teams in the Championship just serves to add to the feeling of meh every time the fixtures come round and increases every subsequent season.

For me it's just a sad reminder of how totally mediocre both the teams have become and it's nothing to look forward to.
