Buchanan couldn't see an easy forward pass so his mindset was to pass backwards at all costs. There was no backwards pass on, but for whatever daft reason he felt he had to attempt it so played a crazy risky backwards ball to put their forward through on goal. Football is a simple game. You should frequently take risks with forward passes to try to create a scoring opportunity. You should never take risks with backwards passes. We're the wrong way round which is why we don't score goals. More recently a good shot from young Lee and a good save. But we're largely under the cosh.
