I dont know why you keep being so negative about kids playing their first game against men Chorley are no mugs, non league players keep themselves fit, they play to a good standard & some players have dropped to that level some will be playing at that level hoping to move to league one or two. Some of our kids wont make it some will. Not every kid in a youth academy can be a world beater. You need enough to put a team out & The better ones are already training with the first team hence they didn't play. Some of these kids will end up playing a good standard of non league when theyre older If it was the first team that lost by all means dig them out but it wasn't. You're entitled to an opinion but itd just slagging off kids for the sake of it. Saying its barca esq & saying negativity about the academy is a bit out of order. But the record books will show us having lost to a non-league team, with no asterisk against the score, and no footnote stating Derby had to field an understrength team due to the coronavirus. This. That's what irks. Just seen Sky's headline - Chorley shock Derby County. Complete ball socks. Having watched the game they tried but weren't in the races really. Boys against men. Great for Chorley but I hate to see us lose and the record books will simply say we lost to Chorley, not our U18s lost, half, or more of whom won't make it at this level. Can understand the desire to continue football but for me it makes a mockery of it IMO. Hardly the giant killing Sky's headline implies. Same for Villa. Klopp put out a very strong side against their U23s.

SSD
At least the boys had a good experience of mens football today. That's the only positive I see from this complete shambles of a situation. The FA will do anything to devalue the cup competitions. Regardless if we won or lose, it feels like football wants to live in a different universe to us mortals with normal jobs. It stinks, I wouldnt feel pride in beating kids at a football match. Chorley could only play what's in front of them but the game should have never gone ahead. It's arrogant decisions like this which make me lose faith in football authorities. The FA Cup needed to be scrapped to try and cover for any potential disruptions caused by the virus. The FA couldn't give a damn.

We were outplayed in every regard and didn’t have the quality to actually create or break through the lines (first half opportunity excluded). It frustrates me that every time after these sort of things happen, we always go “you did us proud lads” and so on. No I didn’t see anything that suggested that. What I saw is that full grown men are better than kids. I don’t have an issue with that. On top of this, circa ten of our under 23’s are not even available due to isolation/the virus. Its just realism of the situation. So well done Cresswell, Hutchinson and Ebosele as what I saw in there games was a suggestion they could go on to bigger things. No one else really took an opportunity to shine sadly. Anyway, what I am proud of is that Derby as a club didn’t go running to the FA looking for a cancellation. I think it should have been and it won’t be a surprise if some of the party today end up with the virus but for the club saying “we’ll honour the game” regardless of the team that we can put out - that is respectful. I just hope either QPR lose today so the game on the 23rd Jan can take place or Rotherham lose (looking likely) so we can squeeze that rearranged game into the 23rd slot. I think Rotherham has already been rearranged for early Feb.

Comical to the point my nipper asked me what I was laughing at I agree with what you’re saying but he did also get the ball and run at their full back. Also three months out coming in cold, I’ll give him that slack.
Nuwtfly
I would like to know why that game just happened. Why was that game allowed to go ahead despite two separate outbreaks of COVID in our club. What is the reason? If the club had the option to postpone but chose to go forward with the fixture, I’d like to know what motivated that decision. I could guess. If the EFL forced us to play, then I’d like to know why, too. It sets a gross precedent for the rest of the season, be it in a cup competition or the league. Yes, well done to the young lads who have been given something of an education today by a non-league team of men. I hope that experience ends up being a positive one for them, and not a negative. But they shouldn’t have been put through that today and I’d like to know why they were.
England Ram
Sometimes Derby fans astound me and often for the wrong reasons. This was not our first choice reserve team by a long shot. In the old days we wouldn’t have had the players to even field a side today. This was not even a ‘team’ today. It was a mixture of the reserves in one team and some starters for another team that have trained together for less than a week. Even established pros would struggle against a manly, organised, physical non league side. (And they have done and will continue to do in the FA cup) We sent kids to do the job and some here expect the unbelievable and others are happy to berate the youngsters for not doing any better. Brilliant support lads, well done for trying understanding football and getting behind our youngsters. What joys you must be to be around. I hope they don’t see your absolute drivel on here and continue their development away from people like you. ?
TuffLuff
It’s also worth pointing out professional sides go away in the cup to grounds like Chorley and struggle to play on those type of pitches against teams that lump it forwards. How many round three games does a prem/champ sides sneak a 1-0, let it go to a replay or lose those games? Heck we did it ourselves a couple of years back! The ‘magic of the cup’ completely relies on the lower league sides being able to have as many things playing into their hands as possible.

Kernow
How many kids actually make it professionally? The rate isn’t very good, let alone when there’s already 38 players at the club ahead in the pecking order as @angieram mentioned (great fact). The reality is a lot of the players will probably end up playing at a lower level than Chorley a few years down the line, however some may succeed. The club and the players will have learnt a lot from a competitive FA Cup game against a men’s side. I don’t think we’ve ever been in a situation where we’ve had no choice but to throw 14 debutants in. I wasn’t expecting to win, I’m not overly disappointed that we didn’t. It’s what our players take from the game and how they choose to use that experience to better themselves that will show how worthwhile fulfilling this fixture was for the club. Ramley Apple
It was about as decent a performance a side of kids could produce against a team of men, non-league or otherwise I don't think they disgraced themselves, but equally I'm not sure what, if anything, they can take from it

Todays game isn't a reflection of the academy or how well its doing. What was so poor today it was funny?♂️ what's funny about a load of kids being thrown together & being thrown out against a side (all be it non-league) that play together every week & have already beat two league clubs. A load of kids being given their debuts under difficult circumstances & live on tv. They've had to step up & too early for a lot of them to represent the club today. They've been beaten by a better team & will learn from it. I just dont get why you'd laugh at a load of kids who have stepped up & out of their depth to represent the club. They gave it a go but just weren't good enough. There isn't any shame in it. They haven't shy away from it & fair play to them. David
Imagine coming on here to lay into a bunch of young players making their debut in the men’s game. In fact, it doesn’t matter where you go, here, Twitter, Facebook or round your mates house. If that’s where your head is at now, if that’s what you want to say and not well done lads, did us proud. I have no words. They went out there and gave it their all, no it wasn’t good enough to beat Chorley but so what, anyone with half a brain cell understands the context. For those players that are just old enough to drink, go grab a beer and get a shandy for your mates that are too young. Fully deserve it. ??
