5 goals in 12 games as an out and out striker for us, not a bad return. He seems to be getting in the right places at the right time, also has a good leap on him for a smaller striker. Would be happy to see Bennett and Wallace up front for us going into next season. If Bennett can stay fit, then reckon that would be a partnership to knock on the play-offs.

Still not completed a full match though, although he was taken off on the 92nd minute in one match so we could time waste, so you could give him that one.

Do you have any more players you want to offload to us on the cheap?

Bennett was an ok player, his problem was he came through here far too young under Clough and it felt like he had been here for years.

Feels like he should be 35 now but he’s only 24.

His stats were skewed from that and used against him, the Joiners Arms incident was the final straw for some.

His fitness/injury issues will probably always hold him back, but the change in scenery will have done him the world of good.

He will be the better signing from Pearce, Malone and him from us, could have done with him here this season tbh.

If you were to cast back to when he made his debut for us as David points out under Clough, at that time he was termed a striker. Only ever saw him play one game in junior ranks, what stood out was his physique.

The reason he played down the middle as a striker, he was physically stronger, bulkier and faster than kids around his age. Around the same time he debuted, you’ll find reports of scoring 2 goals for England juniors and that he was being watched by a host of premiership teams. Such was the reputation he was fermenting. What I believe led to him going out wide, was he had pace but seasoned pro’s learned his trademark was a kick and rush or shoulder barge. So they adapted their starting position to counter Masons main asset; plus he couldn’t just bulldozer grown men, championship centre half’s like he could in the junior ranks.

My belief is that he’s been struggling to adapt ever since, not helped by lack of games or injuries whenever he did get a run in the team. Really think you’re probably getting the best out of him in the system you describe and he’s always had a fair leap because of his athleticism. He needed a change but most of all he needs to stay injury free.

Genuinely think he’ll score goals playing down the middle as Rowett understands him and he belatedly comes of age; I just doubt he’ll last long any season though, so don’t pin your hopes on double figures too often.

6 over the course of the season, but he was put out wide as a left winger for the beginning of the season. He's now playing up top as a number 9 so to speak, hence the recent spurt in goals being scored.

Due to our other strikers being League Two standard, and Zohore being crocked (also not very good). Rowett has decided to play Jed Wallace and Mason Bennett up top in a 3-5-2 formation, leading to him scoring 5 goals in 12 matches. They've struck up a decent partnership, and who knew that Bennett was actually a good poacher in and around the 6 yard box. If we carry onto next season with Wallace and Bennett up front, and he stays fit, then I'd expect him to get 12-15 goals if he continues at the current rate, which would be unthinkable for a Millwall striker in the Championship. Not sure that has happened since Steve Claridge in 01/02.

Talk of Malone being our player of the season as well, the system definitely suits his skillset.

We've done well out of Derby County over the last 2/3 years in terms of value for money (although Alex Pearce is long past his best at this level now).

Stop sniggering at our Waghorn.

Sounds like Troy Parrott; came to us this year with a huge reputation at youth level. Was honestly one of the worst loan signings we've had for a while.

The conclusion I drew from Parrott's hype was that he was physically bigger than all the other players at youth level (remember Champ Man Legend Cherno Samba?!?!) so he looked better than he actually was.

The striker we got on loan, had poor ball control, lacked game intelligence to get in the right places at the right time for those easy Ruud Van Nistelrooy goals, and lacked the physical strength to hold up the ball. I think we would be in and around the play-offs if it wasn't for Parrott, we played 10 games effectively with 10 men.

You can see him at Ipswich now, struggling in League One with only 1 goal in 25 professional football matches. I would be surprised if he ever made it in the Premiership, maybe a decent Championship striker.

You would think that the people involved in youth set-ups would be realising this (especially after Cherno Samba), and preparing players as such to work on their all round game, rather than just hoping their physicality will transfer to mens football.

He signed for them a year ago, this is a new contract.

To my mind the last year when we've all been locked inside didn't really happen so I tend to think of things 2 years ago as being 1 year ago, so things that happened a year ago are kind of "just now" :)

Bennett released by Millwall. Scored 11 times in 103 games for them, but none in this season's 23 appearances. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65649320

Scott Malone with him too I see.  Could get both these fan favourites back on a free 😂

Doh - didn’t realise there’d already been a discussion about this in the free transfer thread.

The final straw was that delightful video about burning Pride Park down when he was still a registered player here.  If the bloke had one brain cell it disappeared in that pub urinal.

He would probably be decent in league one especially if fully fit so we shouldn’t be dismissive about signing him and we need players who can do the roles, especially if the cost is low - yes no one liked the way he left but our priority is getting out of the third division

Whilst it would never be enough to stop me from going, I would despise every time he was selected for my club.

I'd be staggered if the thought of signing the imbecile ever entered into PWs' thinking.

I would hope that he would consider everyone before putting the lid on them - how big is the pool of good enough and cheap enough for our budget players? Anyway more likely to end up at Preston North End
