I fear that we have left it too long now. We should have made this call weeks if not months ago.

Barnsley got smashed 3-0 by Cardiff days ago and QPR got soundly beaten by Blackburn today.

Neither side had won away from home until they came to Pride Park.

We are making everyone look good and I have no idea where the next win is coming from.

I think whoever comes in has a hell of a task on their hands.

I am struggling to think of anyone who this job isn’t too big for.

We’ve hit rock bottom and then some.

I hope Mel doesn’t lead with this in the interview process!

I’d definitely take Big Sam. I think he keeps this team up if nothing else.

Seriously, relegation in this climate needs to be seriously considered as a threat that could potentially kill this football club. Turning your nose up at a manager of his ability because of his style of football really should be the least of our worries.

I’m leaning towards a survival specialist now, because we’re in real danger. Normally I’d hate the idea of a big Sam, but I think we’ve got little choice now. We’ve left Cocu in the job a few games too long and put ourselves in a dire situation.

The question is a pragmatic survival manager the best way to survive?

I can't help but feel that we don't have the squad for "grind it out" football and the players that are perhaps suited for it aren't the best players in the squad. Afterall we've tried going more pragmatic and it didn't really work, only lead to more confusion, a lucky win and a handful competitive performances. I worry with a pragmatist we will essentially undo any good work we did last season in order to become a team that scrapes by.

Personally I think we need someone who is willing to play football but can inject more belief, a rollicking if it's not going well and have conviction in their own decisions.

We need a change now. Not wait until we see what happens after the international break. Unless there’s some sort of performance related clauses in his contract, not sure if we can afford to sack him. And doesn’t sacking him affect FFP?

Have you missed that Allardyce has achieved three promotions?

He's probably the manager most likely to keep us up this season and get us promoted next.

I also think he is more pragmatic (in its real sense) than defensive. He appears to get the best out of the players available, rather than try to mould the players to his way of playing. Given that sustainability only comes with promotion, if I owned the club I'd go for Big Sam if I could make the contract work.

As a fan I'd go for Jokanovic - but it's not my money that's melting away with every season of non-promotion.

Tough to argue with that. Benitez is the best of the lot but I doubt he’d fancy the shitshow that we are atm.

Eddie Howe did wonders with what the BBC link points out was a 'limited budget'. So why would DCFC -- newly taken over by practically the world's richest man -- need those skills? I foresee an entirely different kind of gaffer coming in. Unless the powers-that-be at Pride Park really are completely inept (granted, this could indeed be so) I would be very surprised if Cocu's replacement has not already been tapped up.

Limited? They broke FFP while getting promoted in the Championship.

Not known for his entertaining, attacking football though ?

To be fair, the BBC article's referring to their League Two promotion, which was done on a fairly small budget
