Hello again all - I do hope the above wasn’t referring to me.  I was neither angry nor jealous - just curious.  The Saudi state is still keen to buy Newcastle - if wanting ludicrously wealthy & ethically iffy ownership was the desire, then there’s no better than being potentially owned by the Saudis.    Personally, I’m in that tiny minority who would rather continue being mediocre than be owned by Mohammed bin Salman.

Popped over to see how it was going - hadn’t seen an announcement in the press yet.

It was around this time with NUFC’s ‘takeover’ that stories started coming out that BZG were seeking funding from venture capitalists to fund their purchase of the club.  Midhat (has he turned up yet?) was talking baalocks to supporters during the same period.

Again, for those who somehow think that their ‘bids’ for LFC & NUFC were rejected - the simple truth is BZG never bid.  They asked how much the clubs were available for, were given a price, then mouthed off about how they’d ‘agreed a price’.  That would be like me walking into a Ferrari dealership, asking how much the car over there is, and walking out having ‘agreed the sale’.  They failed because when asked to pay a deposit, they couldn’t stump up the cash.

That does not mean that this is what is happening at DCFC.  They may well have sourced funding to buy the club. But if they have there’s a good chance that it is a leveraged purchase.  I hope you’ve got decent local journalists / fanzines who can look over this stuff should the sale eventually go through.

edit:  a link to one of our better fanzines, true faith, talking about the venture capital / confidence sapping stuff which came out a few weeks after the initial flurry of excitement https://www.true-faith.co.uk/the-patter-takeover-update/

Who said BZG didn’t bid? Obviously your local journalists reported it, but who told them? Ashley? I wouldn’t trust a word he says.

I think we should be aware that there is a lot of shenanigans going on behind the scenes and that corporate takeovers are never pretty.

I hope the proposed new owners have learned lessons and sorted themselves out.

Thanks for your input.

Wouldn’t trust Ashley under any circumstances.

BZG were shown to be lying from day one.  They claimed they were undergoing the PL O&D test.  They weren’t.  They agreed a price, then told anyone who’d listen they were buying the club.  The problem was that they needed to pay a non-returnable cash deposit to start the process.  Something which the Saudis paid in July, BTW.

Hi buddy nice of you to drop in again.

Some things we have learnt from a Derby Supporting Arab journalist who lives out in the middle East.

Bzg and it's owner Shiekh Khaled are facilitator of deals by bringing together various investors to fund them.

The Shiekh is extremely wealthy in his own right and could fund this and deal and the one for Newcastle if he chose too.

He gets on with his cousin Shiekh Mansour but they are not close however any deals he is involved in have to be sanctioned by the Abu Dhabi royal family has they are very conscious of bad publicity.

He is not a high ranking member of the Royal family but is married into the Royal family of Dubai and there is speculation that some of those maybe investing.

Hello mate - that makes sense tbf.  I hope that’s the case - I even felt sorry for Sunderland when they had a leveraged buyout (well, almost).  I hope that’s the case - the guy didn’t exactly leave a positive impression, but perhaps this has been a case of learning from the previous attempt to buy an English club what to do/what not to do.

Yesterday's result was in my opinion the final nail in the coffin for this takeover.

Too much of a gamble now and the Arabs don't bet.

My sister worked for Arab royalty for several years and I can assure you that they bloody well do. I've seen first hand on multiple occasions their enjoyment of splurging multiple year's salary for most of us on the turn of a card in the Park Tower Grosvenor Casino, amongst other venues, as well as being a guest when they have spent tens of thousands on nights out in crap nightclubs. They are also rather partial to certain types of Western ladies! Even Bin Laden lived the London wild life for a good old time before apparently becoming aware of Allah. Now whether that means they'd gamble on Derby, I don't know, but this notion that Arabs are all god-fearing stoics is absolute nonsense.

All of that means we will continue to sleepwalk towards League One for the next couple of weeks. Wonderful.

Putting all their chips on 32 red aren't they?

“Derby have a list of names they are working to although they had yet to speak to or interview candidates as of Saturday afternoon."

Ridiculous

Cocu left the club on the 14th November, 16 days ago.

I would wager any decent initial candidates that initially applied have probably now run a mile after our latest string of results.

welcome back Newcastle fan, your post bag is filling up and rightly so

We are propping up the league, so don't upset us even more with your dastardly posts. It was NOT 'around this time with NUFC's takeover'... that your deal evaporated. How can it have been? As you say - BZG did not formally bid. We on the other hand are post EFL approval, and the club has made formal announcement of the deal. It is a completely different scenario. This is inflammatory Geordie drivel at its worst. Do you really think Mel Morris would announce a deal without getting strong assurances as to certainty of funds? You may be confusing him with an owner who is closer to home.

Thanks also for your colourful simile about the Ferrari. Most likely, the people 'mouthing off about the deal' were the agents, eager to force it through and take their whopping brokers' fee. Don't you think?

Fair enough, fears of a leveraged purchase we can't dismiss. But you do realise don't you that after our ignominious stadium financing, we are already a leveraged club?

Howay !

Totally agree.

Just my opinion, but I honestly think there is a case of arrogance at play.

If I were a betting man I would wager Mel thought with the games coming up since sacking Cocu, if we put Wayne in, we would have a couple of wins under our belts, things would look rosier and our club would look more attractive to any applicants and would have a good pool to pick from and Rooney.

As it is, we are a risky proposition, especially if a manager doesn't want relegation against their name.

Yet another day it’s “close”. I’m beginning to think I might witness us win a football match again before this takeover goes through!

Win against Coventry Tuesday night, takeover complete on Wednesday.

It’s crazy mate, I just don’t get it. The “new owners” have already held zoom meetings with Rooney and the gang and made decisions in consultation with Mel, so what’s to stop them conducting interviews or agreeing on a management strategy in the same way?

sleepwalking our way to league one
