Is it normal for someone else other than Cocu to do a pre-match press conference?

Genuine question, I cant remember if it has happened before?

I always look forward to hearing Cocu speak and was surprised it was Liam.

It’s not unusual and LR is highly verbally intelligent. I have though noticed that DCFC are emphasising his “specialist” coach title possibly in response to the recent critical observations about the actual number of coaches on the payroll.

Thought he was very impressive. A good communicator and sounds like a good motivator. A future manager for someone no doubt.

I hope possibly with us. Great potential manager, very astute, very smart.

My only concern is whether he'd be too defensive given his position in his playing days.

He seemed to spend the interview looking and sounding quite annoyed.

Which was good, shows a spot of personal hurt and passion.

Probably cause he was half out the door to go home for the day and Cocu pushed him into the press room so Cocu could beat him to the Drive-Thru queue at Maccies.

I thought this was due to the bad line from the first journo and the questions being asked maybe sounding like they were designed to add some spice to the Cocu out stories. Asking him about his future and moving into management. LR clearly wanted to answer questions about the upcoming match.

Then the next journalist asked nothing about the match, but asked about diversity and racism etc. which clearly LR is passionate about, but didn't really fit in with a pre-match press conference.

He handled all the questions really well. I like his character a lot and want him to progress with us and the current coaching team.

I liked his explanation of 3 at the back and how the modern game tactics are evolving. Calling it 3 Box 3, which is the classic Pep Guardiola formation and means that the coaches want the formation to be fluid throughout matches with full backs covering a lot of distance and the front 3 rotating, which is what we saw against Forest and Watford (to better effect in the first half).

Being a defender as a player doesn't mean they're going to be a defensive minded coach. Bielsa was a defender. Tuchel was a defender. Nuno was a goalkeeper. Deschamps was a defensive midfielder.

I said it before Liam is going to make a great Manager one day for some club.

He quietly gets on with his job listening and learning.

He very articulate and comfortable dealing with the press and media.

Being a 'recent' player (at a high level) he knows how to deal with players, their needs, wants, their different personalities  and what makes them tick.

He seems very keen to learn and increase his coaching and tactical knowledge base. Taking on board ideas and thoughts of all the different managers he has worked for both as player and coach.

I am sure he's has had input in the scouting and recruitment of current and potential signings at all different age ranges.

I think were lucky to have him and his input at the club.

Hopefully he will be with us for a while yet, before he inevitable moves on to bigger projects elsewhere (unless he's promoted here?)
