jimbo jones 2,897
The county championship “returns” in the summer, though not with the 2 divisions it used to have. Instead teams have been spit into 3 groups of 6, where they will play each other twice. The group positions will then decide how the team are split, into 3 divisions. Group winners and runners up in division 1, 3rd and 4th in division 2, 5th and 6 in division 3. The team who finished top of division 1 will be crowned county champions. Then the 1st and 2nd places teams will play in a 5 day game for the Bob Willis trophy. We are in a pretty tough looking group 1. RadioactiveWaste
Carnero 9,606
Is this a permanent change to 3 divisions of 6 then? If so, good. @jimbo jones Edited October 16, 2020 by Carnero

I like this idea, keeps the games meaningful, with seeding for the next seasons groups being something to play for, when/if they worked that out. It gives every club the chance to be crowned champions at the beginning of every season again, which is definitely a good thing. Especially for the smaller clubs like ourselves, should help against players feeling they need to go to division 1 clubs to get noticed for England too. And the 5 day Lords final is something they should definitely keep. Carnero

So at the end of the 10 game season, 3 divisions of 6 are created based on finishing positions in 2021 but they don't know whether they'll stay like that for 2022? 🤔 Edited October 16, 2020 by Carnero

That makes sense now cheers... yeah just play the 15th game FFS 😂 Personally I think a 10 game 3 division season would be perfect. RadioactiveWaste

It really winds me up, you can guarantee whoever the whipping boys of the group are, will be the one Derbyshire don’t play. Carnero and RadioactiveWaste

jimbo jones 2,897
Australian wicket keeper batsman, who originally signed for last season. Has signed to come and play in both one day competitions next years. sage
jimbo jones 2,897
Dustin Melton has signed for another year, but due to the change in laws, due to brexit. We’ve had too sign the Zimbabwean fast bowler as an overseas player. Another rule change for this year is 2 overseas players allowed in all formats, so having him as one who will be available all year is a move I like. He’s still rough around the edges, but his pace alone means there’s potential there. rynny
rammieib 3,455
Melton signing shows where we believe funds will be at but I believe he can become naturalised after this season? Maybe we may look at A N Other for the 20/20 if crowds are back. McDermott and another leading 20/20 player for the campaign. Derbyshire must be the county who promise so much and fail to deliver so often.
jimbo jones 2,897
The other overseas player that was supposed to sign last season, has signed on for this season. Australian fast bowler, a position we definitely needed to strengthen.
Eddie 2,882
This guy is a real exciting prospect. So looking forward to seeing him play (touch wood) jimbo jones
jimbo jones 2,897
Cricket season starts tomorrow. 13 man squad for the game against Warwickshire. Looks very light in the batting department, only 4 genuine batsmen and Reece is an all rounder. Billy Stanlake hasnt joined the squad yet as he’s still playing for Queensland. Van der MoodHoover 13,245
Queensland to an unseasonably cold Derbyshire is going to be a heck of a temperature gradient.... 😜 jimbo jones

jimbo jones 2,897
The team....which suggests Dal will bat at 3. If he can do a job in there and split the main 4 batsmen up, that would be a bonus. Critchley at 6 rather than 5 also looks better.
