Premier League want to reduce from 20 to 18 teams

It's not surprising that two American owned clubs are leading this.

In America sports franchises are moved locations regularly in search of revenue with no regard for the fans who supported them. The Glaziers and The Fenway Group have no interest in the traditions of our football leagues they just want to maximise interest in the Premier League brand and their profits..

Or maybe they want to float this idea, which gets shot down so they can then believe they tried to help but were rejected leaving them no alternative but to fluck off and create a European Super League.

I don't know if Bayern Munich or Barcelona would dump on its own league like that but you can guarantee that the Yanks, the Arabs and the Oligarchs of the Premier League wouldn't think twice.

Any founder members in these Big 6? No, didn't think so.

Sadly, I think it's got every chance of not being shot down. Their biggest hurdle may be getting it past the other Premier League clubs, who have got a lot to lose, but it seems likely that the majority of League 1 and 2 clubs would support it. They're understandably desperate for the increased money this new plan would bring them, and there isn't much of a downside for them if the Premier League becomes a vehicle run for and by 'The Big Six'. I think the situation is more mixed for the majority of Championship clubs; they need the greater income too, but as possible future members of the Premier League in the short to medium term, they'd be accepting that the top league would be run by and for the benefit of the big clubs in future. It's all a bit of a mess.

In a way but in the kind of league they imagine it would be PSG/Barcelona/Juventus etc at home/away 4 times a season because the foreign owners at Liverpool, Man Utd/City & Arsenal think this is what the fans want, without realising that unlike US sport, football fans actually want the uncertainty of promotion/relegation - without it football would be utterly tedious. I imagine Sky executives would be creaming themselves at something like this but after a couple of seasons it would all go very stale.

0 - 0 and 1 - 0 results all the time … everyone's away kit would be all white ……… five at the back, rolling the ball around  ...  yawn

The timing is interesting - 'The Big Six' … I wonder if Man Utd are actually in long term decline, that they will never replace Ferguson?

….  Spurs have never won it …. Arsenal looked proper cack there for a time …. none of them are invulnerable.

Flies in the ointment - Leicester have won it, and look pretty sturdy top contenders, Everton gate crashing the top too. Then Villa etc

The money is being held at ransom in a power grab by the "big six" so they can have more leverage and a majority on any votes and keep any potential challengers at bay. Whilst freeing up time for more European games and international friendlies at the expense of domestic clubs. Which means more £ for the rich to get richer.

The efl are cap in hand because the lower leagues who were running it tight anyway, rely almost solely on matchday income. They don't have big TV deals to fall back on now that matches are being closed doors but still have to bear the full costs. So are effectively losing money every time the play.

Team like Macclesfield are being wound up in the high court over debts of £500k, which is not much more than some of these teams are paying 1 player each week.

Coming from Liverpool the self appointed socialists of English football to want to give weighted votes to bigger clubs to effectively let them run the league from the top is strange.

But hey, maybe these American Billionaires DO have the best interests of the English football pyramid at heart who knows.

I have said It for a long time now, I honesty do not want us to go up. (Which I have also said, is pretty handy because, well, we are pretty great at NOT going up)

the top division is horrible now, yes it’s full of the best players, yes it is full of the big clubs, yes it is full of big crowds...but none of the players care about anything other than themselves, the clubs prove time and time again that all they care about is money and making more of it and the crowds are big, mainly due to tourists paying over the odds prices for shitty games like Wolves v Fulham....

every weekend there are 7 or 8 games In the top division that I wouldn’t walk to the end of my garden to watch no wonder they want to reduce the number of teams, to get rid of some of the dead rubber games like Southampton v Anyone, West Ham v Anyone, Villa v Anyone, Wolves v Anyone etc etc etc

I know you have been very consistent over this and I can see why.  But what about Mel pouring his fortune into the club with no hope of success.  I do fear for us if we don't get another chance in the top division.  We can't continue as we are I don't think

That’s one of the things that is sending clubs to the toilet, chasing the pot of gold...

This is a total power grab - no question and once the so called big six gain that control they will make the payments to the top six even bigger and they might get it through if the likes of villa and the dirties think they are ‘big again ‘ and invulnerable

so they want rid of the EFL cup - simple do not enter

so they do not want to play in a charity shield - because the money goes to charity!

so they want 4 less games a season - to be replaced by a Far East or North American tour or even take part in a mini European super league

it would be so much better if the so called top six resigned from the premiership and left to play in a European super league it would be fantastic so long as no one asked me to pay for it in any way shape or form and no one tries to shove it down my TV throat and that view may well be replicated by most more normal fans of football fans in this country

They are excited, and passionate about it“

On the face of it this is the behaviour of a racketeering cartel. If it happened in any other industry the regulators would be sniffing.

Imagine we had a temporary food shortage and Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys let cornershops buy chopped tomatoes from the same wholesalers as them, at the price of their choosing, in return for a veto on who runs the shops and where they're located.

Parry really is a total moron, isn't he? Should do us all a favour and stay in bed next time he has a big idea.

If the Prem teams dont want to play in the EFL cup i'm fine with that - no-one is forcing them to. Leave it to teams who are actually in the football league.

As for the rest of that tripe they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Piddle off to America if thats the kind of system they want

I would love that to happen - I have zero respect for those clubs and anything they have won since 1992 because they have done it by cheating everyone else of the financial resources on offer in football.

It's been called the Community Shield for years, after the Charity Commission pointed out it wasn't donating enough to be called a charity event.

They've been working on this proposal for 3 years, and Parry became Chair of the EFL 13 months ago.

I'd like to know if he was involved in discussions before he was appointed?

Sleeper agent right at the top of the tree.

In that case he's as unfit for his role as Parry.

Whatever happened to people being able to keep there gob shut rather than being headline chasing , narcissistic bamfords... just more ammunition clearly highlighting mates rates in the EFL regarding our charge.
