I am sure if I was a professional footballer, that I’d prefer playing in League 2 over Under 23s at Derby. All I can deduce, that he fancies his chances of getting into the first team here relatively quickly (he could well be right at the moment).

A cushty role in the under 23s in one of the top academies in the country, most likely on more money, is much more preferable at this moment in time.

Lower league clubs are really not in a great position at the moment, he may not even get paid on time during the months to come at Southend. I also read that his family has had some abuse due to how bad things have got at Southend.

He’s still very much developing, easier to do it behind relatively closed doors in a supportive environment than in a difficult situation.
