sage
Hamer - 5 Catch the bloody thing Bogle - 6 Decent going forward, slack at the back Forsyth - 6 Started well but was running on empty late on Clarke - 7 Won everything Wisdom 7 Some poor passes early on but defended well Bird - 8 MoM safe passer and broke attacks up well Rooney 7 With Bird controlled the game for 60 mins but obviously tired Waghorn - 6 Kept coming inside too early, won a soft penalty Sibley 7 - Not as effective but still had an assist and should have won a penalty Lawrence - 4 Terrible game, good goal, 3 match ban Martin - 6 Some nice touches but never looked a goal threat
Andicis
Hamer 4 - lost us the momentum with a bad error. Luckily it didn't cost us. Bogle 6 - Did well for the penalty, decent. Wisdom 8 - Excellent roaming from the back and good passing. Good performance. Clarke 7 - Again, pretty good passing and solid defending. Good showing. Forsyth 6 - Got into some nice positions early, was ok. Rooney 6 - A bit risky with his passing at times, well taken penalty but not his best game. Bird 8 - Keeps getting better and better. Important interceptions, strength and intelligence. Waggy 6 - Did well to win the penalty, but a quiet afternoon. Sibley 6 - Good assist for Lawrence but did little else. Lawrence 6 - Good finish, some dodgy touches of the ball at times. We'll miss him in the next 3. Martin 6 - Didn't do much. Involved in the build up to the first. RamNut
Hamer - 5 Just blew his chance of a move? Bogle - 6 turned and played backwards too often. Forsyth - 6 Did ok Clarke - 7 Played well Wisdom 8 MoM . A rock. Bird - 6 Rooney 6 - credit for the penalty but his legs went Waghorn - 5 Sibley 6 - his least effective game Lawrence - 5 good goal. Not much besides. Martin - 5 pedestrian.

Wisdom 7 Some poor passes early on but defended well - came out well a couple of times Bird - 8 MoM safe passer and broke attacks up well Rooney 7 With Bird controlled the game for 60 mins but obviously tired - needs to remember his legs aren't as quick as they were ? Waghorn - 6 Kept coming inside too early, won a soft penalty - not much help to Bogle either Sibley 7 - Not as effective but still had an assist and should have won a penalty - yep Lawrence - 4 Terrible game, good goal, 3 match ban - nope, terrible ending but decent goal and 2nd half Martin - 6 Some nice touches but never looked a goal threat - played Sibley through and closed down more than some! LeedsCityRam
Hamer 5 - poor for the goal, flapped at other balls into the box late on also Bogle 6.5 - 7 for going forward, 6 for his defending. He gets beaten too often by opposing winger and isnt stopping crosses into the box. Was good going forward Forsyth 7 - thought he played well. Blocked a lot of crosses & managed to deal with McCleary's threat despite him clearly having the beating of him Wisdom 8 MOM - excellent bringing the ball out of defence, defended well Clarke 7.5 - composed in possession, reliable in the air. Would be disappointed if we cant sign him permanently Bird 7.5 - also composed in possession & broke up play at crucial times Rooney 7 - dictated play, good penalty but lost possession a few times. Was struggling by the end Lawrence 7 - for his goal & an effective last 10 mins holding the ball up, disrupting their momentum & annoying their defenders. Loses half a point for a needless sending off Waghorn 6 - OK but didnt affect the game much or offer much defensive help to Bogle. Won the penalty Sibley 6.5 - assist for Lawrence's goal, made some bursts on the counter attack but was handled well by Reading. A good learning experience Martin 6.5 - some good touches for others in final 3rd but didnt directly threaten the goal Subs Holmes 7.5 - just what we needed. Energy and great defensive cover Shinnie 7 - also vital to shoring up the midfield late on Davies 6.5 - impressive as ever defending a late onslaught Knight 6.5 - lots of running to halt Reading & wind down the clock
IslandExile
That was an easy catch - under no pressure. If you insist on punching it, punch it somewhere safe. Very poor judgement and execution by Hamer. Talking of punching... Lawrence is a fool. He had worked hard, scored a good goal then un-did it all with that reaction. Hamer nearly cost us the game. Lawrence's ban won't help the promotion push.

It was a thing of beauty and deserves recognition
IslandExile
Thought Wisdom did really well, bringing the ball out from defence and passing it accurately. Necessary with Rooney and Bird so man marked.
Jram
Yeah agree with most of the above, thought Bird was brilliant and most others played well enough. I’m not convinced Lawrence should be the Player receiving the ball with back to goal in our front four but consistently that seemed to be the case impressed with the full backs again I think wisdom and Clarke were good but I think they could do more in possession, a number of times I was wanting wisdom to run at space like a certain ex-captain was so good at to create space for midfielders but they didn’t do a lot wrong Hamer is not for me ? And highlights why we couldnt get into games in December with Davies & Forsyth playing at CB instead.

Only really Sibley and Bogle with any whatsoever.

Agree Wisdom did well and had lots of possession, but he also spent an awful lot of time on the ball wondering who to pass to because Reading didn't allow the upfield players much space at all. Dare I say it, but we could have done with a few Keogh-style runs upfield with the ball today.
Millenniumram
Hamer 5 - It was easier to catch man! Shocking mistake, luckily it didn’t cost us the game. Bogle 6 - Was dangerous in Readings final third, but half asleep defensively. Didn’t track his man well enough at all. Wisdom 7 - Excellent in possession, especially bringing the ball out, but also clocked off defensively at times. Clarke 7 - Absolute monster defensively, won so many challenges and was also composed in possession. Forsyth 6 - Got himself into some nice bits of space going forward, but was roasted for pace defensively second half. Rooney 7 - Showed his composure under pressure to score that absolutely vital pen, and largely controlled the game throughout. Bird 7 - Passing absolutely spot on as usual, and also made a number of vital interceptions. Read the game really well. Waghorn 6 - Battled hard as usual, but didn’t get on the ball enough for me. Needed to make himself more of an option. Sibley 7 - Worked very hard as usual and made some brilliant runs. Sadly he didn’t get on the ball as much as he would have liked as he was heavily marked, but he still got an assist to show for his efforts. Lawrence 7 (8) - Was our best player over the 90 imo - stunning opening goal and worked extremely hard to keep possession, especially in the last 15 minutes. Sadly his idiocy after the final whistle gets him a point docked off his rating. Martin 6 - Some lovely touches and bits of hold up play as always, but looked a bit rusty at times - gifted possession away too often.

Second half it cost us. Reading are quite a quick team from front to back and we had no hope. When we couldn’t play out, we couldn’t even hit channels because we couldn’t outrun them, and we couldn’t carry the ball forward either for the same reason. After goalkeeper, it’s our biggest need this summer. Whether it’s out wide, up front or in midfield.

So IF Cocu had wanted us to play that way, neither Sibley, nor Lawrence, nor Waghorn, nor Knight, nor Holmes, would have had any pace?

Rampant
Hamer - 5 Not a great deal to do but did most things ably enough apart from one key moment where he's had a brainfart. Keepers can't get away with that I'm afraid Bogle - 5 Defensively poor and beaten all to easily by their wide man Forsyth - 4.5 Made to look like a L1 player at times. Not his finest game Wisdom - 7 Solid and had to be given the performances of the full backs Clarke - 7.5 As above. One lovely gallop down the left flank too and more than one instance of him dealing calmly with the Reading threat Bird - 7 Solid Rooney - 6 May need a rest at some point with these games coming thick and fast. A few wayward passes but we continue to get results since his introduction which is no coincidence Sibley - 6.5 Provided bite and legs. Worked an almost identical opportunity for himself to his opener at Millwall but shot straight at the keeper Waghorn - 6 Not as involved as he can be but won the penalty Lawrence - 7 Marked for his performance before the final whistle. Fine goal and excellent desire. Showed willingness to run hard as we wilted in the second half Martin - 5.5 Relinquished possession more often than usual Holmes - 6.5 Helped Bogle defensively down the right and his energy alone was needed Shinnie - 6.5 Got stuck in and was involved during his time on the pitch. Good substitute at the time although could possibly have come on a little earlier Knight and Davies - n/a Came on to shore things up. The latter had no hair
