The club have needed an attacking player, who is actually signed to the club, to be able to take their chance with both hands. Wilson aside, no one has done that since before Ward and Russell to any sort of week in/week out level.

In Sibley, we may just have the player who will do that

Absolute perfection of a number 10 performance today. Beyond the obviously amazing hat-trick, he also caused the Millwall defence all sorts of problems dribbling into the box - proper definition of “twinkletoes”! Also very impressed with his work dropping deeper into midfield as well - he showed excellent energy, winning the ball in the middle of the pitch multiple times and playing some nice bits of interplay with Rooney and Bird. Really really proud moment for the academy to see such an outstanding individual performance.

We have to be careful not to heap too much pressure on him too soon of course - he’s still only played two full games - but he looks to have unreal potential. Special talent.

Has any footballer ever scored an hattrick on their 2nd ever start?

Pretty niche stat to hunt out, that one ?

Pretty sure there's been the rare hat-trick on first ever start, though.

The kind of player that will either create/be given freedom and space by the opposition and bag a load of goals and assists or marked so tightly that it gives the rest of the team more freedom and space to bag goals and assists. Win win.

Exactly, he might not be given so much space anymore now he’s a known danger, but someone man marking him should give the likes of Lawrence extra space.

True, but this league isn't that level as we know. Many of the positions he took up today, defenders should never allow someone to ever enter alone. But so often when a player does, there's no one else in sight and he demonstrated today, multiple times he has the instinct to get into those areas.

To add to that, even if they do, he showed the ability to weave in and out of players in and around the box to get the shots off and part of the reason his chance in the first time has been delayed is his temperant for getting stuck in. So kicking him about won't bother him either.

He's going to go far, especially with the likes of Rooney/Bird behind him and selfless players like Waghorn and Martin to play off.

Sorry, just because it's funny.

Very harsh on the likes of Sibley and Knight, but I think, after such a long suspension of play, form before the break goes out the window unfortunately for certain players. I think it’s difficult to know the sort of Millwall side we will face as well, as they will undoubtedly have injured players back fit like us. So I think the best way to go about choosing a team is to treat this match like the first match of a season and just send the strongest team on paper out and see what happens. That, imo, is the 11 names above.

Sibley is in that team IMO. He'll be absolutely champing at the bit, and I imagine his younger legs will allow him to take advantage of any rustiness in the Millwall lineup.

You again:

Ahead of who though? If the game was played when it was meant to be, he’d have been the first name on my team sheet. Now Holmes is fit though, it’s very difficult to leave him out for someone inexperienced. I guess you could play Holmes wide and put Sibley down the middle. It’s tough though, especially when Rowetts thugs will probably target Sibley because of his inexperience and occasional poor temperament.

Wish that Louie's name was Patrick

Cos then it would rhyme with hat-trick!

Whereas with a name like Louie

He don't rhyme with hat-trick, do he?

Can you set that to music, maestro
