Summer 2020 Transfer Suggestion Thread

Here's a list... some are ambitious, some may not be

Daniel Sturridge (free agent) - very unlikely as wages would be a stumbling block, but imagine we could get a spine of for example Hart/Rooney/Sturridge, there's some Premier League teams who would kill for that level of talent...

Japhet Tanganga (on loan from Tottenham Hotspur) -  an unlikely option/pipe dream but with Spurs seemingly tying him down with a deal for the future it may not be entirely unlikely he could be loaned out for experience - if we can't keep Clarke then why not Tanganga and te Weirik at the back next season?

Timon Wellenreuther (permanent from Willem II) - saw this suggested in our transfer forum, might not be a bad option. We need a keeper so someone with a bit of Bundesliga and a lot of Eredivisie experience on a free would not be the worst option for a club like us.

Jordan Ibe (permanent from Bournemouth) - his plights with his situation at Bournemouth have made headlines recently and he has an obvious media connection with us. Obviously the link is there, he may not be a target for us but if he was to come I'd back Cocu to coach the best out of him at this level...

Kamil Jóźwiak (permanent from Lech Poznan) - a supposed January target who would've 'rised a Euro 2020' place by moving in the winter window. With this now not being the case we may be able to make a decent move for him for not a lot of money. Has a decent return in the Ekstraklasa and fits a young, profitable market for us.

Jon Flanagan (free agent) - seems to be without a club after his stint at Rangers comes to a close this summer - say Bogle ends up leaving for a fee soon, would he be the worst option on a free?

Bote Baku (permanent/loan from Mainz) - a bit left-field, but an impressive midfield option for Mainz in the Bundesliga recently. Could he be a bit of quality we need a Pride Park for hopefully a decent rate (even if on loan)?

Rob Dickie (permanent from Oxford United) - they may still come up yet but Dickie has been impressive all season for Oxford United, including against Man City in their EFL Cup run earlier in the season. Could he be a marquee signing for us and our defence leading into next season?

Saba Lobzhanidze (permanent from Ankaragucu) - currently plying his trade in the relegation zone of the Turkish top flight, previously impressing at Randers FC in Denmark. Could the Georgian international pick up his form at Pride Park for the cheap under Cocu?

There's been no links for Shinnie to Rangers whatsoever. A Scottish pundit suggested Rangers should go for him.

Shinnie is going to be on lowish wages for this league and unless they were paying decent money can't see him going anywhere.

Can see Brighton letting us take Clarke for another season then a winger on loan/permanent. Hamer is more than capable and I'm pretty sure we could sign him on a free.

Depends which league Brighton are in regarding Clarke - clearly didn’t look premier league class to me

I can't see there being much transfer activity at all this summer. But I think we need a Goalie, Centre-Back, Winger and Centre-Forward (if there's no Martin next season) if we want to challenge next season. I'll have a go at some suggestions:

Goalie - Zack Steffen on loan from Man City? I watch quite a bit of MLS and he was very impressive for Columbus. Penalty saving specialist. Spent this season out on loan to Dusseldorf in Germany and seems to be fairly highly rated there.

Centre-Back - I'd have Matt Clarke for another season from Brighton if they'd let him out on loan again. Him and Te Wierik at the back should be pretty solid on paper.

Winger - Tahith Chong on loan from Man Utd? Seems to want a chance and could be available if Man Utd don't give him enough of one.

Centre-Forward - Key position in our team. Could go for Lyle Taylor on a free? Cauley Woodrow has been pretty decent in a poo Barnsley team this season. Sam Lammers on loan from PSV? Don't know much about him, but he has a decent scoring record and Cocu will know him.

If Martin is going (please no), I'd go all out and get Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Ibe.

Not a chance this would happen, but IF and it's a big IF we could get a season with both players fit in the same team as Wayne Rooney, it would be 1 hell of a season

Daniel Sturridge remains a class player but I must admit I struggle to see the fascination our fans seem to have with Ibe.

He was good in patches when he played for us before but has not played regularly and has a dodgy temperament.

There must be better options than him.

Good in patches? ? he was quality when last with us, hence why Bournemouth then spent so much money on him. He is undoubtably a very good player at championship level. So if Cocu could sort him out, we would improve our team. All at little risk, due to him being a free agent.

unless you can name some better options on a free?

GK - I like the idea of Wellenreuther, the little I have seen is good and all write ups have been impressive.

CB - Can't see it happening but Van der Hoorn from Swansea on a free would be great business. We'd need a second as well and would be tempted to find a young player from league one/two or overseas.

Wing - Ibe would be fantastic.

ST - Lyle Taylor is the name I keep seeing and I'd be happy with this in theory but concerned about age if we wanted to have a proper attempt at promotion next season.

Daniel Sturridge???

The same Daniel Sturridge that has only started 10+ (11) games in one season once since 13/14!

Good grief, that would be an horrendous signing, you would need 2 bog rolls to write down his injury history.

Bonkers.

I'd like our priority on signings to be :

Goal keeper, CB, a winger/attacking mid and a striker. I don't want us to go for any big names. Ibe and Sturridge are the exact opposite of people we should go for, both being on high wages. In the case of Sturridge, one of the most injury prone players of all time, and Ibe with his confidence shot to pieces and his spell in the Premier League being a complete failure.

It's time for us to correct the mistakes of our transfer policy in the past and go abroad or to the lower leagues for signings. Signing a ''name'' just means we end up spending way more money.

The very same, how many players have had seasons worth or injuries but then go onto have at least 1 good season.

As my post said IF he stayed fit,  he would be good.

It’s ok saying IF he stayed fit but you would only find out if he could by signing him.

Can we really afford to take that kind of gamble especially in the current climate?

I’m not sure he would be up for a contract that would allow us to release him for nothing if he picked up an injury which would rule him out for months.

With Jack Marriott already struggling to stay fit, Daniel Sturridge is the last player we need at the club right now.

Well Derby most looking like be looking at frees and season long loans this season.

But heres one he midfield and plays for arsneal ainsley maitland niles he is only 22 years old but wages could be stumbling block but he could be value for money.

Signed a five year contract in 2019 for 35,000 a week so could be doubtful we'd go for him.

I thought we hadn't got two halfpennies to rub together.

Unless someone called Mel has found a wad of notes he'd forgot about stuffed in the back of the sofa.

I doubt like most other clubs we will be signing any players for any money.

They'll plenty of loans and free to choose from.

Am long shot but could make sense. Angel gomes is not signing a man united contract in the hope of first team football elsewhere. He is no where near the finished article but he is wanted by some of the big boys but he will not get first team football there. Could we maybe tempt him with Rooney knowing him and endorsing us?? He would want a big wage but could be the best bit of business we’ve ever done if he hits the ground running

No reason to worry. I got plenty of bog rolls in my storage.
