A season or two like no other(s)?

Recommended Posts

This season, and perhaps even the one previously has been... eventful!

-Lampard

-Star loanees

-Unprecedented play-off win

-Losing lampard

-Drink-driving

-Rooney

-COVID-19

Has there ever been quite such an emotional rollercoaster in the history of the Rams?

75-76 on for the league and cup double.

Charlie George dislocates his shoulder against Stoke. So begins the descent to the third tier of English football.

Maybe not within two seasons but certainly in a very short period of time.

On the other hand 4th May 1968 18th in Division Two staving of relegation by 5 points: 15th April 1970 4th in Division 1 should have been in the Fairs Cup (UEFA cUP)

Also the two promotions in a row in the Eighties were pretty spectacular, Arthur needs a stand named after him.

Think it's pretty hard to top that. Imagine Man City ending up in League One after spending tens of millions dismantling their squad, replacing every single player with somebody worse.

The Brian Clough saga would've been pretty spicy too. Imagine this forum during the limbo period immediately after his resignation.

The boredom of the late 2000s/early 2010s also created an entertainment vacuum filled by some dodgy photoshopping from Cliffy and a series of squabbling threads which caused another internet forum to literally eat itself. All of it garnished with b4's war cries. That's not Derby County per se, but the online world was an emotional roller coaster back then.

And who could forget the Phil Brown experiment? One orange man's mission to get Bolton's B team relegated to the third tier in record time. Shame he was sacked before he could finish the project.

Getting relegated to Division 3, the third tier, whilst narrowly avoiding going bankrupt in 1983/84. Arthur Cox coming in as manager with only eight players on the books or thereabouts for the 1984/85 season. Getting promoted back to Division 2, in Cox’s second season 1985/86, followed by promotion straight back into the top flight in 1986/87.

Has there been two years when it's not been a rollercoaster ride?

In a proper Derby way, you know that you're in rollercoaster, just don't know are you going up or down.

I would then add the signings of England internationals  Shilton and Wright, Derby signing Saunders from Maxwell’s other club, finishing 5th in top flight. The Ivo Knoflicek and Lubas Kubrick saga.

Actually it's a fair point that you make. The club has had a turbulent history, but yes this season is up there with the worst of them.
