IslandExile
Watching the Madrid highlights on RamsTV reminds me of the side from the 75-76 season. Boulton Thomas. Todd. McFarland. Nish Rioch. Newton. Gemmill Hector. Lee. George Thanks to Charlie's shoulder injury (cheers Stoke, Dennis Smith?) we didn't win the double as we should but I would still maintain, even without Hinton, that was the best side that we've ever had. Glorious. Let's hope RamsTV select some of their matches. ?

What I hate about this post is that one of the first things I would do if I invented a backwards time machine (ie into the past) would be to prevent Charlie getting injured. Yet here it remains in this thread that he did get injured, suggesting I shall never invent such a device. It's incredibly disappointing. The team was magnificent. If we could merge any of the side from the early 1970s into it, how would we make it better?
admira
This is when I fell in love with the Rams as a 10 year old Suffolk boi! After they trounced Ipswich 6-2 away, a Derby fan saw my Rams scarf and walked me up Portman Road on his shoulders. I felt ten feet high

I don't know if they would improve it, but it would be one hell of a bench. A young, fit Steve Powell would also be on there with them.

Don't think he improved on Ron Webster and, even if he did, always seemed a bit like he was at the wrong party. 3: Boulton was a good keeper, but there were better in the league at that time. Alan Stevenson at Burnley, Kevin Keelan at Norwich, some young lad at Leicester whose name escapes me.

And I'm heartened that somewhere the Rams did do the double and maybe remain at the pinnacle of English and world football. Time travel done, my next task is to invent a machine to traverse the multiverses!

Lots of good keepers as this was the era before any overseas players.....Corrigan, Clemence Jimmy Rimmer, Phil Parkes...the one at Wolves?

If you mean Derby players from the earlier 70s years, then I agree with @BaaLocks, you could probably go for Webster in place of Thomas. However, Thomas was useful because he could also play centre half. I'd like to have Hinton to provide natural width, crosses etc., but who would you leave out. Nah, let's play with 12. I agree that one or two keepers may have been technically a fraction better but Boulton was Mr. Consistent, never let in a daft goal, ever present for two league titles....he oozed a steady calmness. Mind you, I ooze a little thinking about those days....?
