Zag zig
Talks of the season starting in May are fanciful but F1 could be in a real pickle, teams need money from racing, they have big mouths to feed.

I went to Union at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday and the crowd was just over 7000 which in that stadium was next to nothing. At least it was easy to get a beer and a feed! All union games postponed from this week.
JuanFloEvraTheCocu'sNesta
Surprised nobody picked this thread up at the time. Austria didn't disappoint yet again. Great race this weekend, well the last 20 odd laps anyway. So chuffed for Lando nicking a pole with the fastest lap of the race on the last lap of the race. Great stuff. He will - but it was the obvious decision at the time. Not sure why Brundle and co were making such a big deal of it - if he'd stayed out and Lewis hadn't punctured, he'd have been second with no fastest lap. No-one could forsee 3 tryes bursting in the last 2 laps so they took the correct decision at the time.... Have to say, for all the drama, I don't want to see races decided by mechanical failure - much rather it's due to the skill of the drivers than who gets lucky on the day.... Yeah definately the right one at the time I think, just shows how quick decisions have to be made. Possibly had Red Bull had more time to analyse the data they may have thought staying out was the right thing as clearly Mercedes knew that it was quite possible the same could happen to Hamilton as happended to Bottas. What we dont know, unless its been covered since, is how critical Verstappens tyre was too so had he stayed out he might have not finished also. Remy the hare
I don’t get the hype comparisons with Hamilton to Schumacher’s records? Likewise I don’t understand comparing Schumacher to Senna or Prost records? The F1 cars in the last 10 years have become super super super reliable due to technological advances. In the 80’s, 90’s and even 00’s sometimes only half dozen cars would finish a race. Hamilton’s last DNF was over 2 years ago! It isn’t apples for apples. Don’t believe the hype! I get what you are saying, really you can only judge a driver against those of the same generation, of which Hamilton in my opinion is the best..certainly of the past say 15 years. I remember the 80s when out of 16 races only your top 11 counted because of reliability. I do think you can make comparisons with senna, Schumacher , Hamilton and even mansell as they are were all capable of winning regardless of starting position etc they all have or had that extra that some drivers don't I suppose it's a bit like football and trying to compare teams and players of today with those from 30 plus years ago, unless you can put them up against each other you won't ever know

Very true - plus there's like 6 or 7 more races per season now so a dominant car will reap more wins now than a dominant car did over a 15 or 16 race season. Only thing I will say which counters the effects of this somewhat in Hamilton's favour is that Schumacher's team mates were largely subservient/not very good with a couple of exceptions when he was not at his peak (very early or very late in his career) whereas Hamilton has been paired with Alonso, Button and Rosberg who are all WDC's and all had equal treatment to Hamilton, so that's got to be worth a few wins per season. Pointless comparing though because there's so many different parameters you could come up with a million different reasons why one is better than the other. I think you can only judge by era and Hamilton would be the best of the 2010's in most people's eyes.
Srg
Used to love F1 as a kid, watching every Sunday. Watched my first full race in years last week as it got so dull with pole = win. All this managing tyre nonsense to make up for no overtaking is so dull. It hasn't dragged me back. Only thing it's good for is watching the first corner in case there's a fun crash and then sleeping until the last lap to see the pole sitter win, unless his tyres don't last.
