He expects everything on a plate for him, and everything has to be perfect for him to get anything. The problem is, even when its perfectly set up for him, its anyone's guess whether he's going to fancy this game or not, and as he proved against Barnsley at home, he has the potential to be quite wasteful. (Side note, that's about the shape of every top striker to come out of Peterborough for the last 10 years. Says something about how they set up to make their forwards into stars to sell them for big money). So we've got a striker that if he fancies it that day, and all the team are built around him, and he happens to have brought his shooting boots that day, can score goals. That's not enough. I actually felt for him a bit against Barnsley because he worked very hard and not everything was perfect for him, yet through work rate he got himself into some good positions and won some good balls, managed to bag himself a goal, and all people could talk about after the game was how many clear cut chances he missed. That game should have been a positive for him and he came out the other side a less confident player. Bit of a contradiction here by starting with the premise that he doesn’t work hard enough, and finishing with just how hard he worked against Barnsley. Part of the problem is Cocu’s constant meddling so that when we have found something that works, he instantly changes it. And if it works well, we never see it again. As many have said, he needs a consistent run in the side to get up to speed, and to get used to who he is playing g alongside. But that doesn’t happen because he is often played as target man - for which you need a physically big person, which Marriott isn’t. He has had a few opportunities playing off Waghorn, whose lack of basic ball control regularly kills attacks stone dead - his delicate ball to play Whitaker through against Northampton being a case in point. It would have been perfect if it wasn’t 100 mph too fast. Martin would have laid it off superbly, but he can’t do that when he is playing out on the wing ?. And urs he needs to play off Martin but rarely gets the chance, because Martin too gets pratted about by the constant tinkering. Cocu is making a difference little by little and is currently concentrating on making us hard to beat, hence the paucity of chances for the strikers. So here we are again criticising the strikers for not getting many chances.

And what an unusual first name.
