Derby, Preston, 32Red & the Star Clause

Anyone read the Ryan Conway article about this??

Don't subscribe to the Athletic myself, but long story short, The Rams inserted a so called star clause into their deal with 32Red that has allowed for Rooney's & Frank's signings over the past couple of seasons.  With them being another club who're sponsored by them, but not having such a clause, Preston are upset about it ?‍♂️

Anybody bothered to read the whole thing??

I read it. People seem to think Preston are kicking off and will end their deal with 32Red in summer. The reality is the deal ends in summer and they can choose not to renew. Article also says Leeds and Boro aren't arsed about the star clause. Only seems to be fans that are truly bothered.

32Red offered all teams more funds for things like that and community projects but only Derby took them on.

Not read it, but seems to be of the Derby have been contractually clever and others are salty over it.

If it's the case Preston have a clause saying their deal is the same as everyone else's they might have a case to moan, but if its just "we didn't think you we could do that" it's well, just salty.

18 months of Rooney is approx £ 7.5m (allegedly) and 32Red pay us an extra £1.5m (allegedly) - that's quite a shortfall unless other funding is coming our way

That's a lot higher than I've seen before of his alleged wages. The £1.5m comfortably covers the remainder of this season.

Very highly doubt Rooney is on £100k a week here, its likely he wasn't even that high in the US.

Probably call it half of that (at most) and that's easily covered by the 32Red deal plus the savings on the many players we got rid of in the summer (even more so now with Keoghs wages)

Also the community funding, 32Red do a lot more behind the scenes in this instance.....

I really don't get the 'ethical' issues surrounding the Rooney deal.

We were already sponsored by 32Red. Without checking the exact numbers, I reckon at least half of the other teams in the league are sponsored by gambling companies. We play in the Sky Bet Championship.

If someone has a problem with gambling sponsorship in sport in general, then fair enough. But to kick off about Rooney wearing a particular shirt number that, to the naked eye, has nothing to do with gambling? I simply don't understand the hysteria.
