No one's talking about communism. The private sector will still make washing powder, cars, biscuits etc....I'm suggesting that what I call vital public services, things we need to run the country in a civilised way, future energy decisions for instance can't just be taken with the profit margin as the main factor.

Doctors surgeries now employ Business Managers, not all decisions are guaranteed to be in the patients best interests, the practice has to balance its books......

As a country, our government should have the best interests of the people who live here as the guiding principle. Red lining the important things  would take the pressure off the professionals who run the system and allow decisions to be made that may seem expensive to start with but turns out to save in the long run.

It is certainly a serious debate that we should be having although I suggest that the current Labour Party would steer things towards an ever larger state, which to me has more pitfalls than benefits, Different sorts of hanger on but hangers on all the same.

my feeling is that privately run profit making utilities work .. but only when properly regulated. Those sort of businesses by virtue of their high capital costs balanced against certainty of income should be safe but unspectacular investments for pension funds and the like. This isn’t always the case ...There is no doubt in my mind that business leaders in some of those industries have put dividend before investment or have the balance wrong. Regulators should have power to instruct certain investment or limit dividend but I am dubious of going too far backwards in to total state control.

I am sure there would be “business managers” in public all run doctors surgeries. Consider the number of missed appointments. It doesn’t matter if it is state or private. Resources must be used wisely and efficiently, state or private.

If it goes poorly I hope the elecorate remember who negotiated the deals and worked on pushing it trough. Johnson owns this now, if it doesn't work he shouldn't be allowed to hide from it because that is exactly what he will try to do.

If he is going to 'own it' then he must be allowed to take it forward without any more interruption from Remainers.

And another to add to the list:-

Guess the national media are too busy with Harry/Meghan and Iran to bother reporting this...

I read that yesterday. Failings at every level, people can cite a lack of resources all they want but the warnings were there and basically ignored. That's a lack of competency, not resources.

It was widely reported yesterday. Sorry to burst your conspiracy bubble.

Googled it and cant see any links to any of the national newspapers.

Apologies if it was reported in them.

Not really burst my bubble. If it has been reported at national level, I assume it will be another great opportunity to actually investigate why it is happening so regularly.

The failure is at the very very top by not having a national investigation as to why there are so many instances of this.

Nothing to do with resources, much more to do with being worried about offending large communities.

*awaits incoming accusations of racism and claims that this is happening in all communities

Oh OK - you mean *it*

Why do you even bring it up?

Oh and a laughing emoji reaction to a post about child abuse. How we laughed ?

So you did know what 'it' was about after all?

Almost as if you wasnt trying to set me a trap to try and get me to say something so you could deflect the story away from them.

The BBC had an article on it.  Buried it in regional news cos its not really that important ☹️

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-51093159?intlink_from_url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/c347nd992zkt/child-grooming&link_location=live-reporting-story

This despite the fact that 19000 kids were expolited in the past year, up from around 3000 five years earlier;

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/grooming-child-sex-abuse-exploitation-rotherham-rochdale-police-a9215261.html

We're still just scratching the surface of a problem thats been going on for decades (and still continues) yet some people on here think its a fun game to troll or goad you into a reaction, then try to mock you for giving a laughing emoji to a post about child abuse despite them knowing full well why the emoji was given.  Disgusting and sad.

And the fear of accusations of racism are the major reason why nothing was done at the time to stop these grooming gangs.

I have noticed that when this is reported, they go on about large groups of older Asian males! I think they need to report this properly and stop lumping all Asians together. It was mainly large groups of Muslim males. Not Hindus, Sikhs or Buddhists.

And we all know you get perverted freaks in all communities, it's just that the difference in these cases are the amount of people within the community that are involved.

Let’s be clear about what has happened here. G Star posted a link to the story for no apparent reason. No one goaded him into posting it. He clearly posted it to goad those of us who don’t think it’s a good idea to racialise crime. I didn’t bite until he continued to refer to “it” rather than be brave enough to state what his actual problem is in plain English.

I merely questioned what he meant by “it”. His response – a laughing emoji
He even then showed his impatience to be called out on it

“*awaits incoming accusations of racism and claims that this is happening in all communities “

Yet still I haven’t made any comments on the story, so I suggest you apologise for suggesting I am trying to troll/goad him into a reaction. I am not engaging in a debate on religion/sexual abuse on the politics thread as they are both banned subjects. G Star should probably get a warning for his behaviour in posting it in the first place and then trolling for a reaction

Although its not the first time you've dismissed this topic.  *thinks back to discussing political correctness and its effect on the crimes being ignored*

We've skirted around the topic before when its been in the news, so long as we don't discuss specifics or focus on other angles such as reasons why it was allowed to go on for so long without being addressed thats fine imo, but then I'm not a mod so what do I know other than we've had these discussions before and they are still there to view in last years thread.

Not going to apologise for what I view as an obvious troll attempt on your behalf or attempt to get @G STAR RAM a warning.

I think the only people racialising the crime is those that call them Asian grooming gangs rather than what they really are.

And I think one of the reasons @G STAR RAMposted about this was to highlight something discussed on here previously about political correctness and the fact these crimes were ignored because of the way people fear being branded because of it.
