Time to experiment

Unlike some, I have always accepted that this was a "transition season":  time to blood a few youngsters and for Cocu to assess the squad.

The jury has been out for some on the contributions of Lawrence and Bennett, though to be fair, I liked them both. However, the majority of fans will agree that Keogh is a significant loss. We don't yet know if others are involved and may miss games as a disciplinary measure.

So, maybe promotion is looking even less likely.

Time to experiment - with formations, squad players and so on.

I posted this (see below) on the Supporters Forum - call for questions thread but it captures part of what I mean - in relation to formations and, in particular, Martin & Marriott together. In addition, we would all like to see Sibley, Mitchell-Lawson and Whittaker getting runs in the team. How about trying Buchanan at centre back. Or giving Hamas a run in goal.

We have nothing to lose. well, maybe get relegated. Nah, won't happen....?

Ive mentioned on another thread.

I know this was a long time ago and football has changed since.

But when Jim Smith was here he had 3 strikers. Sturridge, Wanchope and Baiano.

He used to play the 3 of them up front with the width coming from the full backs.

In all fairness we haven't been playing with much width this season anyway. If Waghorn and Lawrence are on each wing they tend to drift in.

If Bogle is fit on Saturday I'd play Waghorn, Martin and Marriott up top.
