Their chairman is clever because by saying Charlton have met the clause it means other clubs will be sparked into action. This then in turn could start a bidding war with the other two clubs involved. Clever business

How can it start a bidding war when he a release clause of 2.5m?

Because that just sets the minimum price for the bidding war to start at.

Not really, clubs would only have to match that price and Posh have to accept that. The only bidding war will be what he gets paid.

Release clause price would be the maximum anyone would have to pay - The club have to accept any bid at that level so anyone bidding higher would be daft

Two options for a bidding war that I could see

1) the offer they've accepted could be much below release clause price

2) any agent would want to start a bidding war for player wages - suggesting multiple clubs in for him would drive that up

Correct! Then it’s up to the player if he fancies the move and wages ?

“The buying club pays the amount via the player. Release clause is the clause in which the club owning the player sets some pre-determined contractual amount below which they reject the offer but has to accept the offer when they ask at the pre-determined contractual amount.”
