Yeah, it really is. On my way back from Bristol last season, I heard some of our fans on the train chanting about the Philpotts. A lot of our away fan base are just incredibly unsavoury, and it really does put me off going to some away games because of it. It's embarrassing.

i've virtually given up going to away games due to that abusive, pished up, toxic majority. Its a day out with an entire asbo community. Pished  up and ready to kick off with anyone - players, manager, fellow supporters, stewards, police, passers by.....absolutely anyone is a potential target for aggro from the farting, foul mouled, thickos. i don't find even the 'Dark Fruits' getting-pished-up-en-route-to-the-match stuff even remotely amusing. Its just tedious. It glorifies a culture of general dickheadedness.

Personally i don't find any of the above responses acceptable. Booing or slow hand clapping as a general show of dissatisfaction is about the limit. Hand jestures. Screaming and bellowing abuse to individuals. Barging around because you haven't had your wave.

Absolutely Pathetic.

Totally agree with the above. Seems that individuals are incapable of internal moderation - a few pre match drinks as a means of socialising without feeling the  need to then rip the ass out of the situation and getting incoherently drunk.

Is mirrored in any town centre on a weekend night when everything has to be done to excess for them to be able to have a good night.

In Victorian days people used to go to opium dens to blank their mind of the grinding poverty and squalid living conditions they inhabit I dont see that nowadays in fact some of the people exhibiting this behaviour have large amounts of disposal income. Maybe a reflection more of their dull tedious lives that they feel the necessity to do this.

Yeah i don't necessarily find a contradiction between these two statements if that's what you're getting at... It's perfectly normal to be shouting and swearing after such an awful performance. Btw I have boo'd on occasion after awful performances but have never abused a player or manager because it's just not something i do. In relation to the second comment I believe it was asking what's the actual difference in relation to writing it on a forum and shouting it after a match?

We know from Robbie Savage that players do look at the forum and care what people think therefore it has a similar effect in that way. Second, if people can't attend the match or are still riled up it's still in my book perfectly natural to vent through a computer as it would be venting at the time.

A very interesting read through this thread. Quite a wide spectrum of opinion, from  extreme anger through to the die-hard "thou shalt not criticise our players". Somehow we need to find a balance so that criticism of an abject performance (or tow, or three .......) can be expressed, without this idea that we applaud them at all times regardless. The team actually does get a lot of applause and encouragement during a match - we even applaud a defender heading the ball out for a throw in when in actually fact it was nothing more than a routine action. But when the fans have been forced through the mincer in terms of the emotions they/we have experienced in the last few matches, frustrations are understandable. And yes, money does come into it, because going to matches, especially away matches, takes up a sizeable chunk of our disposables and to see our money being thrown away regularly by people who are capable of so much better is frustrating. But there is no need to go on an alcohol-inspired rage, which I think is where much of our problem lies. A  bit more self-control, especially in terms of tipping the nectar down our throats, would not go amiss.

I have the impression that a lot of fans don’t actually go to watch a match. They’re just waiting for something to react to. They want to do ‘limbs’, whatever that is, throw beer about, abuse the opposition etc. So when nothing positive happens they feel cheated and react in the opposite way, booing, shouting abuse etc. Maybe Sky is to blame, they’re only interested in controversy, replaying every incident a dozen times, every goal, free kick and tackle. Actually In reality a game has the bigger percentage of time when nothing much happens. You don’t often hear someone say they enjoyed the game for what it was - a game between 2 teams - unless they won.

I would suggest a decent proportion of the 17.4 million people voted that way because they believe in "Little Britain"? Is it any wonder some of our "fans" told him to "go back where he came from". They make me puke and need to get out a bit more.

I voted to leave the EU. I would never boo Cocu or tell anybody to go back where they came from.

Yeah, I'm calling ******** on that. Once players earn a certain amount, some of them get comfortable and stop putting the effort in. See half the players United have signed recently. How much they earn has plenty to do with performance, of course dependent on the person.

regardless of how much money they get some will struggle to play roles which they cant master this happens to lots of sportsmen in different sports for example so golfers play better on some courses that they do on others, runners form will fluctuate in different weather conditions,

Not often I've ever said this but Holloway talks a lot of sense in that interview. Some of our more 'emotional' fans might want to have a listen.

Cocu is probably starting to realise the burden of expectation here - to be so consistently around the top 6 since 2013 has been impressive but also immensely frustrating & I totally understand that some fans are getting fed up. Problem is we will not progress as a club until a manager has had enough time to stamp his mark on this club - to be fair to Morris, both Rowett and Lampard walked but we seem to starting afresh every few months. Fans getting irate is only going to prolong that vicious circle.

I actually don't think we're far from being pretty decent. There's not much concern about us defensively and we have some enviable attacking talent for this division. The sticking point (as it has been for a while) is midfield. I don't believe you can play 2 midfielders as languid as Huddlestone and Dowell in the same team but fully believe that Bielek and Holmes will be in there before long. We may at that point start to see the best of Dowell with a more dominant foundation behind him. We were floundering last year until Bradley Johnson was brought back into the team & expect Bielek to have a bigger impact. The higher up the pitch we win back possession, the more dangerous we'll be.

I thought there was a robust measure to ascertain a person's level of intelligence called the Intelligence Quotient which isn't subjective at all?

IQ tests - a, partially at the very least, academic metric devised by academics for academics - loada balls isn’t it. There are lots of types of intelligence - practical, emotional, recall, etc.

Most IQ tests assume a decent level of knowledge that it’s say most state-educated, non-academics just wouldn’t bother with.

And to keep it on-topic - the abuse PC would’ve had in Turkey would make our little yelps look a bit toothless I’d have thought.
