Always rated Paterson highly in terms of talent. What you hear about him is that he doesn't do what he should on the training pitch and is a bit of a knob. If the latter points weren't the case, we wouldn't have been able to get him. But I think Lampard introduced a serious intensity into training last season that Cocu will maintain, and if Paterson can't hack it he won't get near the team and he'll have a very boring season. If he ups his game we'll have a very strong extra option.

Surprisingly strong in the air and also good with both feet. Sent from one promotion-chasing team to another, he has a point to prove. He's got a lot of competition but if his head's right then I'd rather have him on our team sheet than the opposition's.

Hes going to have to go some to turn around a lot of the fans after saying he hates Derby. His interview wasn't a great start either, seems like he could be one to disrupt the dressing room. Would rather we didn't sign anyone then try for somebody else in Jan

He seems like one to disrupt the changing room!?? Where has that crock of pooe comment come from...based on what exactly???

and his interview was’nt a good start either??? seriously???give your head a wobble pal .....maybe you’re a forest fan ....that would explain it lol ?

Kin ell you can't put a well balanced rationale for a player on this forum ,what are you thinking about.

Great interview. He looks delighted to be here. You can tell he can't wait to dish it out to the Trent End.

"It is what it is"

you tell them son!

Given JP clearly wasn't anywhere close to our 1st choise given the list we were linked with, I think it's a marked improvement on previous year's that

A) our eventual back up choice is an effective player (not spectacular) over several seasons. He may not be a player who'd drive us to promotion on his own, but he's a safe bet, unlikely to be a write-off like a Camara or someone.

B) our back up option is only on loan, if we want rid after the season we won't have committed too much money to him.

In that case, I'd "of" done the same. Forgive me but I don't want our forum to descend to the level of some other clubs' forums where the standard of posts' content and grammar indicate an IQ of a squashed aubergine.

No need to take it out on the much maligned aubergine ... very strong nutritional value and a multitude of uses . ... including insertion into grammar police before sitting and squashing of course. .?

I guess you haven't seen his haircut? Could start a WW3 and easily so.

Bet you were surprised and couldn’t believe we signed Rooney too.

Kasey Palmer has finally found a home I see. Can’t believe you paid 3.5 mill for a player that plays a good game 1/4.

But, your manager must have seen something.

I was surprised!

Palmer is only 22, think we got a great deal for him! 1 MOTM & 2 assists so far.

Can't say it's gone down too well(especially with me!)

Out of interest, what are your honest thoughts on us taking Rooney? We're all buzzing pretty much!

It seems a very good signing, I'm not sure how is fitness is now though. Maybe a 60 minute player? I'm glad you don't have him for the whole season. Also, the Bet32 stuff seems pretty immoral, from the little I've seen, what are your views on the accused subliminal messaging of gambling being subjected to kids? (Genuine question)

Sky Bet Championship...the league in which both our teams compete in is sponsored by a betting company, should our teams withdraw immediately?

If any rules or laws have been broken, then the consequences will be faced.  Is it as bad as when tobacco companies sponsored F1, Snooker and Horse racing?  That was only banned in 2005, regarding sporting events/teams etc, however was still allowed to sponsor the arts. the Royal Academy was being sponsored by Japan Tobacco Industry and BAT up until at least 2017.

Lets look at Alcohol, whilst this has declined, and the founding of the Portman Group, has seen a code drawn up to make sure a strict guideline is followed, it is still a big sponsor in sports.

Kids have always been exposed to vices, it's down to the parents to parent.  Every day I would collect the papers from the newsagent and see a wall of cigarettes as I collected them from the counter, you could actually buy single cigarettes, and the newsagent knew dam well the kids where under 16. Yes I did smoke, briefly, that was down to peer pressure and being sold the lie that it was a cool thing to do.

I agree the level of gambling messaging has become inappropriate in football now, but to single Derby out wouldn't be right.

1. As others have said, Sky Bet championship, its literally in the name.

2. Pretty much every club has a betting sponsor, they get advertised on the pitch/big screens/concourses and even set up a big bright booth in most stadiums to draw you in.

3. Most championship clubs have a betting company as a shirt sponsor, or have done in the last few years.

4. TV, any live football on BT or Sky tends to carry adverts for betting companies, probably exposed more than at games.

5. Football video games don't censor betting companies. Betting logos are shown on shirts of virtual players on a game that is rated 3+.

The Rooney number fiasco is just another to add to the long list, the media attention that's come from it has probably done more harm than the number itself in all fairness.

All the best for Bristol's season ?

My views are if anyone suggests it will affect kids its a cop out for lazy parenting. Parents are responsible for what their kids do. We were sponsored by Pedigree a few years back and to the best of my knowledge there aren't loads of young adults blaming their alcoholism on that sponsorship deal.

How do you feel about it? I presume you are including your own club when you mention the word immoral considering who your sponsors are ?

Good to see your link-up with Dunder buddy, the online gambling casino:

Bristol Sport’s group head of commercial, Caroline Herbert, said: “We are delighted that Dunder has joined our sporting group as City's principal partner. Our thanks to Lancer Scott, who agreed to step down and allow us to take this opportunity of attracting an international company’s investment, which we hope will help City continue to grow and build on the successes of last season.

Your moral compass must be spinning like a roulette wheel knowing your club was prepared to push aside a local employer so a few extra chips could be thrown on to the table.

The 32Red deal is so influential and has such a large impact on people, that despite all the publicity through the Rooney signing, people still don't even know what they're called.

Yeah, it's not great..

It's on the front of the shirt mind you, and they play in the sky bet championship

The only good thing is that Mel Morris has been open on who's paying for it essentially so us parents can explain it to our kids I suppose and gives an open door for us to discuss the pitfalls of gambling I suppose. I do think the media have blown it up into something it isn't mind you. I don't gamble, have in the past here and there but was taught at an early age that its a poor use of money and its my responsibility to choose
