We had Frank Lampard as Manager last season. We had Ashley Cole playing for us last season. We now have have Phillip Cocu as our current Manager.

Getting Rooney in doesn’t seem all that far fetched at all these days!

Hmm, no, it doesn't.

Unlike thatntime under NigelnClough when we were linked to Michael Owen

In all seriousness though, if the finances are right for us then why not?

He's 33 years old. He's not plagued by injury. He's a natural goalscorer, he has a brilliant goalscoring record for every side he's played in.

England's all-time-goalscorer. Scored 10 goals from midfield in the Premier League for Everton.

He may have lost certain aspects of his game, he's not the quickest player anymore and would probably play deeper, but he would be a cut above in this league. Currently one of the best players in the league in my opinion is 34-year-old Pablo Hernandez because of his fantastical technical ability. Do we really need to debate if Rooney is better than him?

He'll be another "idol" for players at the club, another one for the media to whip themselves in a frenzy over.

Some say the forum chris Martin mega fans will still say he should start up front over Rooney

Whilst it's funny, my initial thoughts would be Rooney coming in to add some real quality to midfield?

Is Mel just ahead of the game. He found that he could get compensation for Rowett, he then gets Lampard in gets compensation...makes sense that he sees a way to let big names cut their teeth in coaching / management, write in a big release clause, it’s great revenue stream, and also great publicity for the club and maybe attracting new investment. I’m sure some of the other clubs in and around the division will do similar soon.

This would be an absolute class signing a genuine world class player in his day. Smashing it in the state could help us commercially they'll be rooney fans keeping an eye out for him.

Might be on the decline but he'll still be miles better than anyone else in this league
