A mate who supports Boro reckons they have a player from West Ham just signed called Marcus Browne we were in for .  A few on the forum seem of this opinion as well .  First I've heard of him .   Boro were also in for Bielik apparently.

He is an attacking midfielder/winger according to Wikipedia so that may well have been the case.

Hopefully this isn't one we had lined up and we lost out on.

Are they getting themselves confused with AC Milan again?

Old news this one, I read we were in for him but had lost out but this was last week.

Right, two down. No more strong speculation about the other two, just minor rumours.

Yeh, this is when it gets more exciting for me - Cocu making me almost certain at least 2 more signings and essentially nothing on the transfer rumours board...

I think we will sign a GK and a Winger.

We have enough cover in them positions for Mondays game so time isn't an issue. We have filled to big gaps in our team, CB and DM the 2 players weve signed today really excite me hope Cocu has a surprise or 2 up his sleeve.

I think a lot may depend on outs as I think if Carson goes we will get another GK and if Martin goes we will get another forward. RW is the only actual position we appear to be targeting. Another CAM could be an option (Ramselaar?) if they become available

I’ve liked some of our business so far, especially Clarke because he will help to prevent us being as vulnerable from crosses into the box.

However,  I hope we sign a couple of wingers. I’d be concerned if Lawrence and Jozefzoon are our starting wingers this season, neither of them are consistent enough or convincing. Especially in the 4-3-3 formation where wide players are expected to contribute with goals. I’d be surprised if they scored 10 goals between them this season.  With Wilson and Mount gone, we’ve lost a lot of goals from midfield and out wide, I hope we aren’t in a situation where we end up relying on Waghorn to score all our goals and ending up putting too much pressure on him. Compare our wide players to for example an expected promotion rival, Fulham, who have Sessengon, Knockaert and Caveleiro in their wide areas

If we signed Bowen from Hull city it would make a difference

He’d be a fantastic signing but he’s a bit unrealistic as many premier league teams want him. But we agree with the principle point, our wide players probably aren’t good enough if we want to reach at least the play offs so we need to sign at least one new wide man. I wasn’t Johnny Russell’s biggest fan, but he got many goals and assists, as did Ince on the other wing,  it added up and made a difference to the team .

Currently we have Lawrence, Jozefzoon, Anya and Bennett as our wide options. That’s nowhere near good enough at the moment, it’s probably midtable-lowertable standard. Scoring goals was a problem last season, and that was when we had mount and Wilson.  We need to address it. Our wide areas is probably the weakest part of our team, and probably by quite a bit as well.

I think whilst it's a fair point your making a bit of a meal of it.

Mount scored 9 last year and I think it's reasonable to wager Dowell will cover that. You'd expect Lawrence to score a similar amount to last year and the year before (6) and possibly more if he kicks on under Cocu. Waghorn is likely to score more this year than last if he's deployed up front for this season. And that's not to mention that more goals will come if we have more effective consistent build up play which someone like Cocu might bring.

I think we probably "need" one top quality right winger and anything after that, I.e. another attacking midfielder or winger is gravy.

Whilst true this was less to do with individual players and more to do with not consistently being able to build and apply pressure. Which was partially tactical and partially to do with missing a few pieces i.e. a good fit at DM and a linking midfielder (Although Holmes was growing into this). In a strange way Bielik might be crucial in this by quickly snuffing counter attacks and immediately getting us on the front foot we can keep teams penned in better leading to more opportunities.

If only Gibson had been prepared to meet Gibsons asking price for the Riverside!

Needs to learn from Mel the master......?

Dowell did well at forest but he only scored 2 last season for a free flowing sheff Utd side, it remains to be seen how effective he will be for us, good talent though. Wilson scored 15 in the league for us last season, then we need to factor in that I highly doubt Waghorn and Marriott will play together like Frank did at times, Frank played Waghorn on rw to fit Waghorn and Marriott in the same side which probably took the pressure off both of them as their movement stretched the game for each other. We can assume that only one of them will play at one given time listening to Cocu so there will be pressure on one of them to score more goals, at the same time meaning theyd be easier to mark for opposition teams if only one of them are on the pitch. Waghorn did well at times as a lone forward, then at other times struggled badly. Am I right in saying his best form throughout his career is when he’s part of a front 2?

I’d see your point if Lawrence and Jozefzoon were ‘assist’ wide men as Waghorn would get more chances. However, they don’t really get assists or create many scoring chances, I can see Waghorn getting a bit frustrated actually playing with them two long term because they tend to dribble, or should I say try to dribble a lot and they don’t get it into the box early like Waghorn wants. A striker is only as good as their service.
