Excellent result and obviously Lawrence was man of the match with a superb all round performance. The free range that has been given by cocu is going to pay massive dividends for us this season.

My second fav was Clarke...he has given us a measure of control in defence that we have missed.

One of very few downs for me was waghorn....struggled to impose himself, poor on the ball for him and seemed to be trying too hard.

So,a great result for us and a very, very promising start.

Agree with this. I also think Zoon and Malone did pretty well.

Aside from Lawrence being the man of the match, I though Clarke looked rock solid defensively, won a lot of headers and was in the right place at the right time , plus he looked composed on the ball. Huddlestone was very poor defensively despite being good on the ball for the most part, Beilik will take this team to another level hopefully by adding the steal we need in midfield, as at times we looked to easy to break down in midfield when we overcommitted first half.

Brighton got an absolute bargain there by the looks of it.

Looks it. He really does. He took to Championship level like it was absolutely nothing. At his age, and from his ability, looks an absolute steal at what they paid.

Another positive besides the performance was that most of those players got their first 90 mins tonight after a disrupted preseason.

played some great football first half and was resilient second half.

3 points in the bag from an away match against a relegated team  and players to come back in and hopefully a quality right winger also to come in

Brief thoughts:

- Matt Clarke looks absolutely immense and will work perfectly with Keogh.

- Thought we looked a little lacking in mobility in the middle of the park, but Bielik will be the perfect tonic for that. Think he will add what we need, along with another skilled attacking midfielder.

- Jozefzoon needs to improve or he is going to quickly lose his spot to the new No.7

- Tom Lawrence looking like the player we all know he could be. Class act from start to finish. Maybe he just needs to be the main man?

What a kick off to the season after the disappointment of playoff defeat, the much shortened break due to Wembley, the wasted time due to the change of manager and a rather dis-jointed pre-season.

Also our big summer signing not ready yet, potential talisman Marriott not fully fit and Holmes also injured.

Some great play in the first half. Passing round the back quickly and into the midfield, opening up the pitch and finding space easily in attacking positions. So much better than the performance away at Reading last season and a much better 1st half performance than many games we saw last time round.

The 2nd half was perhaps even more impressive. Not seem game management like that from us for a long time. We looked like a top team who knew what was needed to get the job done. Clarke already looks immense.

Early days of course but highly promising. Cocu's already got more out of Lawrence than the previous 2 managers got.

If Chelsea look poor vs Man Utd and Liverpool over the next week, their fans might be looking at Cocu and be scratching their heads. 3 Dutch league wins may be better than 6th to 6th in the Championship??

Great win Derby ( even with a perceived weakened team)

roos - nothing to do

bogle - assist number 1

Keogh- captain sensible

Clarke - he will do thank very much

Malone - did ok

Evans - quietly effective

huddlestone - given all the time in the world - so perfect

Dowell - ok ish soft penalty

jafoozon- ok early doors disappeared as usual

Waghorn - battled manfully

marmite - was the cream today - if only he does that every week - well played

sub Bennett- got in the way a few times

great win win but boy did Huddersfield stand of us
