ramit Posted August 1, 2020 Share Posted August 1, 2020 i believe in working with what you have and not becoming dependent on loans, for when they leave, the cohesion of the team goes out the window and then you need loans again, a vicious and unwise circle IMO. The exception would be an option to buy. Good luck to Clarke, he did a fine job for us and i would welcome him back on a permanent deal, that however being unlikely. It sounds smart to say good defenders don't need to tackle and there is a small element of truth in terms of positional sense and anticipating the game, but it's largely nonsense. When I think of great Derby defenders like Toddy, Roy Mac and Mark Wright, I also think of impeccable tacklers. Bobby Moore was an incredible tackler too and he did ok. I think there's a famous quote from Maldini about being out of position if you need to slide tackle. Key being slide tackling, and not just tackling in general.
