G-Ram
At youth level (under 15s and lower) the scouts are volunteers at some clubs. i have a mate thats a scout for a newly promoted prem team. He is unpaid. All he has had is a coat out of them. He also scouts next opposition & has to write a report for a conference side. Again its unpaid. He gets a match ticket & some expense. He does it for love & for experience to try to get into a paid coaching / scouting role at a club. He has been approached now by Burnley for a paid role at youth level. First question they asked was 'whats the pathway for scouts' at the club he' s at. Point is, they are willing to invest in him & he'll jump ship for that chance. Scouting isnt clear cut. Its about building a network of people that will work for you going to local games. They are probably feeding the same information into the paid scouts at other clubs. Its alright saying what are our scouts doing it takes a lot to build up a network
G-Ram
On 09/07/2019 at 23:47, Ghost of Clough said: I’m not sure what your point is. Why does a scout have to be an experienced pro? How do you know who their contacts are? Have you seen who Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, etc have as scouts? As well as scouting these clubs run a free community coaching development course. Not saying Derby dont do anything. But City in the community run sessions where there community coaches go out & coach local kids. They have four permanent location across Manchester (& close areas) training is same time everyweek. Its a permanent thing. Only thing you have to do is sign up every 8 weeks it's classed as a block course but when one ends another starts the following week The point is there are a few reasons they do this. Your youth recruitment is only as good as your local talent (lives within 90 mins, unless you find a once in a generation talent further away & move their parents to within 90mins of the club & give them jobs) They look good, they are doing a bit for the community. They are also brainwashing kids every skill has a city players name involved The most important reason they do it is its a scouting exercise. The kids that sign up for this scheme are there to be coached as part of a community programme. But they are also on show for the community coaches. They're seeing them up close for a number of weeks. If you look good enough you then get invited to the academy development at the training ground. If you're good enough there you'll be signed up to the academy. Its a cost which a club like city can afford to do but its a clever idea
