Pleased you had a good time out in the states, you can always be sure Mr Keogh will show his appreciation to the fans, he loves our club and shows it on and off the pitch, glad he will still be at our club next season, hope he leads us to the premiership, he and the fans deserve it.

Love this from Keogh

Have you photoshopped someone's head on to this?? Looks really odd

Not yet here. The 'rave' seemed to start when Chelsea U23s coach picked him out? ATM I prefer Sibley.

Yes...but Mel also raved about Bird...so I’ll keep watching but for me I’ve yet to see him “impose” himself on a game.

Yes indeed. Knight looked good. Despite the rave about Bird, I’ve yet to “see” it. Anyone seen the promise in him yet?

Thought Bird looked good against Sarasota, very smart passing, always looked to play positive. I think one of his main issues is that he is deployed quite deep in the first team, but for the U23s and U18s (especially) he has been given more freedom to roam where he sees fit (from the games I have seen) and he looks a step up.

Hopefully @angieram, @Ghost of Clough and @SaintRam can shed some more light. (probably tell me I'm talking garbage 😂

We don’t need them to tell us that mate.

Has Lowe been played at CB in his two appearances? Do we think Cocu see’s this as an option or is it more due to limited CB options and Lowe is left footed so can play left side of the CB pairing?

I know what @Ellafella means as I have similar feelings about Bird.

He's definitely a classy playmaker and he gets the time and space to do this at under 23 level. This is time and space he'll never get in the Championship so that is an element of his game he'll need to work on. The more he plays at that level, the more he'll get used to it, I think he can do it. He's still very young for a midfielder and it will help when he bulks up a bit as he can deal with the challenges better.

As for his role getting forward for the under 23s @rynny , I think it is partly confidence and partly the fluidity of play at that level.

If it was down to options, I would have expected MacDonald to slot in there as he has done at youth level. I think it's either to have a look at how Lowe copes defensively, or to see where MacDonald is in his development.

I thought he was primarily used as the deepest mid, but used as one of the advanced two for the early part of the season for the U23s due to available personnel, and to develop the 'attacking' part of his game - shooting, killer passes, etc...

I think he was only played in the DM role once, away to Villa, where the rest of the team was nonexistent. He played the simple passes well, but as Angie said, he hasn't adapted to the speed of play yet (Villa pressed quickly), which resulted in being dispossessed a couple of times. The only other meaningful minutes he got were at home to Bolton towards to end of the game in a more advanced role. Everything seemed to flow through him and i can't recall a single wayward pass, bad control or being tackled. The scoreline and speed of the game helped.

I feel in any midfield (whether we play 433, 4231, or anything else) he can fit into either of the 2 deeper positions due to how strong the defensive side of his game is (intercepting, tackling), and he's a tidy passer.

Cocu might be wanting to see if he can actually defend because unfortunately he didn’t do it very well at left back with us last season or it might just be let’s see how they react to something different

Lowe played in just 3 league games last season. Looking at the defensive stats in those games, you could argue it's others in defence who weren't good enough.

Reading (away)

  • 2 tackles - best defender, 3rd in the team
  • 1 interception - 2nd best defender, joint 5th best in the team.
  • 2 clearances - joint 2nd best defender, joint 2nd most in the team
  • 2 fouls - most in defence, 3rd most in the team

For comparison, here's how the others did: Wisdom (1, 0, 2, 1), Keogh (0, 0, 4, 0), Davies (1, 2, 2, 1)

Leeds (home)

  • 3 tackles - best defender, joint best in the team
  • 3 interceptions - joint 2nd best defender, joint 3rd best in the team)
  • 2 clearances - joint best defender, joint 2nd best in the team
  • 2 fouls - joint worst defender, joint worst in the team

For comparison, here's how the others did: Wisdom (2, 3, 0, 1), Keogh (2, 0, 2, 2), Tomori (2, 8, 2, 1)

Leeds (away)

  • 4 tackles - best defender, 2nd best in the team
  • 2 interceptions - 2nd best defender, joint 2rd best in the team)
  • 4 clearances - 2nd best defender, 2nd best in the team
  • 0 fouls - joint best defender, joint best in the team

For comparison, here's how the others did: Wisdom (1, 0, 1, 1), Keogh (3, 0, 8, 0), Tomori (3, 6, 2, 1)

Respect to your stats and absolutely we as a team didn’t defend well in those games but lowe has a lot to learn about actual defending in my mind
