Thoughts

Like parts of that, couple of points im not sure on though..

Marriott .. hes a striker not a AM , if he plays a role like that hes going to have to be getting in the box a lot because hes a natural finisher.

GK ... think its obvious we prob are looking for a new keeper id expect they will be starting

RB ... is Bateman ready yet to be the number 2 , not sure.

CM .... think we need at least 1 CM , dont think Knight and Sibley can be relied on to be direct back up.

RW ....   deffo need a classy wide player in ,zoon looks good so far but didnt set the world on fire last season.

In summary i believe we are probably 4 quality players away from having a really competitive squad

We seem to have missed this transfer window. Its come too soon for Cocu, and we spent most of the summer waiting for Frank to sort himself out.

I would broadly agree with your assessment, but a left wing / attacking midfielder would be my preference. The transfer market has been mad, but a couple of players who have moved would have been perfect for us. I suspect its too late now to do anything other than loans.

Yeh i think one of the main problems being that Cocu will want plenty of time to assess what we have first before he decides to bring anybody in.

I have a sneaky feeling though we may have one marquee signing for money but that may come very close to the start of the season.

Half of the team pretty much picks itself.

Roos

Bogle Keogh CB Malone

CM CM CM

RW CF Lawrence

CB - Evans appears to be first choice partner to Keogh. But is that due to easing Davies back into things after his injury?

CM - Who knows? Lots of options which will help with keeping things fresh. Holmes, Dowell, Huddlestone, Shinnie. Then there's Thorne, Evans, Bird, Knight and Sibley. Even tougher to choose just 2 if we lineup as we did against Burton.

RW - Bennett or Jozefzoon (or Anya). Bennett probably edges it.

CF - Waghorn, Marriott or Martin? The best all round forward is Waghorn so probably him at this point.

I think this is the correct answer with the players we have at the moment. Is possible that we put two at the base of the midfield with Huddlestone in there, and Cocu also seems to have a Bennett fetish like Frank did, although, likes him central.

Probably is what we'd go with currently, especially given Marriott's injury. I would have Bennett over Zoon on the wing though.

We are crying out for a new GK, CB and RW though. And probably another midfielder, there isn't much depth there if any of those 3 (or Huddlestone) get injured,

I think 4 additions to what we have now would see us competitive enough to be around the playoff mix. And hopefully 1 or 2 of the young lads can break through and make an impact during the season.

Roos (I thought he was poo after Wembley but did well today so he's nailed down the shirt for 46 games)

Bogle ('s replacement after he's sold)

Keogh ('s replacement - always got a mistake in him)

Loanee

New LB

Loanee

Dowell

One of the kids on rotation

Loanee

Marriott (until he doesn't score for an hour, then Waghorn, then Martin, then panic)

New RW

Waghorn and Marriott have to be on the pitch at that same time

Current wingers aren’t offering anything... Bennett is a striker, Lawrence is a no.10 and Zoon hasn’t been good enough and then there’s Anya

Allow the 2 attacking fullbacks to do what they do best and Huddlestone drops in to make a temporary back 3

Nice balance in midfield with work rate let Dowell do what he’s good at and feed the front 2 Holmes and Shinnie the engine room that allows Huddlestone to play and the fullbacks to bomb on

Still need at least 4 incomings to be a top 6 squad
