Very open game could have gone either way before the red card.

France winner came from them attacking from a drop ball which Tammy Abraham didn't contest. Silly at the stage of the game.

I don't think they're allowed to contest the ball under new rules? Or the ref told him who gets the ball - which is what they normally do.

You need a good manager to do that - Boothroyd is shyte big time.

He sticks out like a sore thumb in this England set up.

Agricultural football in an era when the teams above and below him have moved on, yet he somehow remains in charge of the second most important national squad.

Bit sexist that, what about the women?

Better team, by a country mile too, up until the first penalty decision. Still say we would have won that comfortably 11v11.

Boothroyd nowhere near good enough or progressive enough to manage this team. Bit of a joke he's employed in such an important position for the future of the national team.

Fluked a promotion with Watford via the playoffs in his first season, proved out of his depth and then did largely nothing with a few short stints in the lower leagues. How does that get him this job?

They were going for age group continuity weren't they? Southgate stepped up to the senior side, boothroyd stepped up from the u19s and u20s.

I agree with the sentiment that he's an odd choice for manager at any level of the national team.

If England majestically flop this tournament (they were heavily backed to win it), we could see Paul Simpson move up from the u20s to the u21s.

That didn't happen after the last flop with Boothroyd.

Simpson's managerial record at club level is worse than Boothroyd's. And his team selection in recent U20s games has been bizarre to say the least, and it's been accompanied by some terrible form. I wouldn't judge his ability on the World Cup win, as strange as that may sound.

Well in by gray. Wouldn’t want Boothroyd in charge of the local subway yet alone the most important youth level of our national team based on his showing here. Tactics are almost unbelievably awful, as is his team selection and initial squad selection where he appears to have taken no one capable of playing as a CDM.
